I’m a junior in high school about to finish up this school year and I’m trying to determine my chances at various schools.
GPA:
Weighted: 3.6
Unweighted: 3.4
(I have taken as many available AP classes as possible each year and am in all honors)
Test Scores:
SAT: 1220/1600
ACT: 25/36
I would say academically I am very average.
Clubs:
NHS
Beta Club
SNHS
HOSA
I have taken a Clinical Rotation class this year at my high school and next year I will take a Pharmacy Technician class.
I have lived in another country before, as well as visited other countries. I don’t know if these will help my chances but any feed back would be great
Do you currently live in Texas or are you out-of-state?
Just from reading the threads here it looks like they are pretty tight on the top 7% rule. Are you in the top 7%?
You have to apply directly to a specific major. What is your intended major?
Are you planning to take your ACT again?
I’m not in the top 7%, I’m in the top 22%
I would like to get in to their nursing program, but I would also be okay with just taking prerequisites the first year then transferring to nursing my sophomore year.
And yes I’m planning on taking my ACT and SAT again
I’m not an expert on UT and their nursing program so I think you should spend some time looking at the UT forum here.
UT is crazy competitive and from what I’ve read here your chances become rather slim once you are outside the top 7%.
Are you stuck on UT for some reason? Have you considered some of the UT branch schools that have amazing nursing schools? UT Tyler and UT Arlington have fantastic nursing programs where you would get a smaller school experience and an engaging nursing program for sure. Your chances of admsision are also higher.
Nursing is quite competitive, and not being in the top 7-8% really kills your chances. Since it will be impossible for you to raise your rank that much, I’d encourage you to work on your SAT/ACT over the summer and your EC’s. This will obviously give you the best chance of getting in as a review admit (which is still highly unlikely given your rank), but will also increase the likelihood that you get CAP’d. Transferring from a CC is probably less statistically likely than a general admission as a freshman as well (I think the transfer acceptance rate hovers around 30%), and will probably require a 3.8-4.0 College GPA to have a great chances.
Others are correct. Outside that top % and your chances to a competitive major are slim.
If you even think you might accept CAP, if offered, I would advise applying directly to that system school instead if you CAP at say, UTArlington, you are accepted to UT if you satisfy the requirement. If you apply direct to the system school, such as UTA, you have a much improved chance at major and you can apply to transfer into major at UT. The worse they can say is no, and you would still be in your major at the system school.
Okay thank you guys so much for your time! I think I’m gonna look around at some other schools where I might have a better chance, and of course also try to up my test scores haha
