UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

Look at post #497. No one knows

Found out my major decision a few days ago, got into McCombs with the presidential scholarship :D. They didn’t send any emails though I just checked because I was anxious, make sure y’all check the “mystatus” thing often.

@Cookiegod What’s the presidential scholarship?

Anyone else hear about McCombs scholarships?

@Cookiegod – congrats! Is that with the Texas Advance scholarship program?

@Cookiegod when did u. Submit ur application?

I was admitted into Engineering on December 19th

@ADA110 what major of Engeniaring and can you please share your stats. Thanks.

@Larysa Electrical Engineering and I’ll PM you my stats

@ADA110 My son applied for Chemical Engeniaring.

Does anyone know if an applicant can be rejected early on, like today perhaps? Or are they just releasing acceptances early and all the rejected people will hear at a later time?

@loubruin , just Acceptances. Rejections go out last, mid/late March.

uh guys my “yey u got auto admit” message disappeared and now it says “your application is complete” did i just lose auto admit qualification??? :(( also, i dont have the “join our official facebook group” message anymore @KevinRMartin come help!!

@AngelFoxtrot That same thing happened to me once and then it went back to auto admit status a day later. I got admitted into my major two weeks after than happened (November wave) so it might be a sign that you’ll be admitted in the January wave? I wouldn’t stress about it but if it doesn’t change back in a week then email your counselor!

Great news, my auto admit is back!! @DoctorB98 I sure hope you’re right :stuck_out_tongue: The stress is starting to hurt.

Do you all think I have a chance at UT Austin?

@carachel2
Ayyy what a coincidence you called me out on another thread as well. Yes that was with the Texas advance program

@saintgermain
I submitted my ApplyTexas application on Oct 16, but I didn’t finish the extra stuff you have to do on their website until around Nov 01

@Cookiegod --just wanted you to know I’m not hunting you down specifically to call you out.
:slight_smile:

I’m not sure people realize how much of an impact they can have with some posts. Posting about scholarships, in my opinion, needs to be very clear about whether it is need based, merit based or a combination of both.

It seems sometimes people mistakenly think University of Texas is somehow generous with scholarships for the high stats student. The reality is they are NOT–unless there is a need based component.

You can help a LOT of current and future users if you are clear with your stats and the type of scholarship granted. Everyone on CC has different needs. Some kids don’t qualify at all for need based aid, so when you post your stats and that you got a big scholarship, it offers false hope. I know students at UT with a 35 ACT/top 1% rank and they get $0.00 in scholarships.

Alternatively, some students would really really benefit from seeing your stats because they are students whose family income places them in line with the guidelines for the Texas Advance scholarship and they may otherwise think UT is not affordable for them! You can offer a lot of hope by identifying the scholarship in a searchable way for them.

Regardless…congrats on your scholarship and I truly wish you all the best.

@carachel2 Well said. Thank you and you are exactly right. I saw the comment about the big scholarship and was concerned as our child has the type of stats that you mentioned and has gotten offered big scholarships at all other schools but received $0 at UT. We do not qualify according to FAFSA for any aid. Your post asking if it was Texas Advance was helpful. That being said, many congrats to @Cookiegod on admission and the great scholarship.
