@honeynut12 most people just do chance me do put their minds at ease, no one actually thinks it’s 100% accurate
@BreadedPrincess I’m copying these comments from another website -
“Chance me’s may leave an applicant with too much hope after being told they have a shoo-in for their number one school. Then it becomes a dream school. And they get denied or deferred, breaking their hopes in the application process.
Or a student is told they don’t have a chance, based solely in their test scores or their not stellar ECs, but the applicant did have a chance. That is, they had a chance if they submitted their app, which never way submitted because of the negative results of their chance me.”
“What’s really the point of chanceme posts? Considering anyone can make a somewhat reasonable guess based on statistics and naviance if you have it, a lot of posts seem just to be asking for reassurance and validation. However, there’s always a possibility that you won’t like what you hear. I can understand certain posts that may ask if it’s worth it to apply, where the responses given can actually matter. But otherwise they could largely stress people out or give them false hope that the admissions process is something different that the total crapshoot that it is.”
In other words, chance mes do more harm than good.
Edit: Recently I saw a post where people were posting their admission decisions for GA Tech EA. A LOT of people were deferred or denied even though they had something along the lines of 36 ACT, 1600 SAT, 4.0 GPAs, National awards, etc. etc.
I went through their comment history and they had chance mes where people say they had a great chance or were told they had nothing to worry about. I can’t imagine the look on their faces when they received their decision
@honeynut12 That’s so true, I never thought of it that way before. Chance me’s would probably be more beneficial if people used them as ways to add to their application before they submit.
so basically there are no decisions coming out in January and it’s possible the next batch of admissions for EA is at the end of February?
The only information about decisions this year is that decisions will come out BY March 1.
Historically decisions have come out this week’s Friday and mid February. There is no such thing as EA for UT; there is only regular decision according to what I’ve seen.
Contrary to previous patterns, some people have posted that they have received their decision last Monday.
This is from CNS’s faq-
“Students are encouraged to submit their applications well in advance of the deadline. Nearly 40,000 freshman applicants apply for summer/fall admission. These students are encouraged to submit their applications before November 1 to allow sufficient time for processing. UT Austin and the College of Natural Sciences does not offer early decision or early action for general admission and applying early does not influence one’s admission decision. All applicants who submit complete applications on time are considered for admission.”
The only type of EA I’ve heard of is some of the Honors have EA dates, not general admission.
Anyone else attending/applying to the summer 2017 semester? There seems to be so little information on how it differs from Fall 2017 (in terms of course availability, housing, etc.). Any info/insight on summer 2017 stuff would be appreciated!
Does anyone know the most competitive CNS majors? I applied to Bio as my first and Neuroscience as my second and I’m worried they might be pretty tough competition
@BreadedPrincess what are your stats?
@renwa 30 ACT
3.97 GPA
Rank: School doesn’t rank
Lots of Bio related ECs and volunteer hours
Really full resume
3 rec letters all pretty good
Did all 3 essays which were good too imo
@BreadedPrincess No idea how this year will compare to last year, but I have a LH in Biochem now who had a 31 ACT. She was top 2.9% of her class. Wrote all essays, volunteer work, good resume, etc. Good luck!
Long back receievd a mail for option to change major within 1st december. Can any one change major now.
@BreadedPrincess I got into Biology this year with a much lower gpa. I think you have a good chance (but it’s so unpredictable)
I called admissions this morning and they said it was very likely (but not 100%) that some admission decisions would be out on Friday!
