HOOKEM
were you admitted today?
Looks like it! Guess @EmpirestateDad was right (:
How many OOS (out of state) and International applicants in this thread have received their decisions so far?
I have realized something. The in states are given their decisions first, then OOS and lastly the internationals, however, according to their SAT SCORES. An International student with 2100 on the SAT will not receive his decision before an In state student with 1800, for instance. I think this is how the decisions are carried out, completely my opinion based on what I have seen so far.
I’m an international student with perfect grades (As and A stars) on my GCE O level and even on my AS level, great ecas, recommendation letters and superb essays, but a low SAT SCORE (OLD; taken once) of 1790. I’ve applied for petroleum engineering (to Cockrell) on the 17th of September (09/17) and have still not heard from them yet.
Guys, fathers, and mothers, tell me and tell us what you think. Every comment here makes the admissions process clearer.
See my post from last year on my theory:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1800287-fall-of-2016-applicants-p18.html
I have a quick question. I am an out of state student doing petroleum engineering. The first year I can pay the out of state tuition but my family as a whole is moving to austin before college starts so before my second year I will have lived in Texas for about a year. Therefore would I be eligible for in-state tuition for my remaining years? I don’t fancy paying about 40k every year for out of state whereas in state is just 10k.
Thanks.
Also anyone else here going to UT Austin for Petroleum Engineering?
Found out a few hours ago that I was accepted to the English program! I’m super out of auto admit range, though, so I didn’t expect to hear back until late February.
Rank was 18/75
SAT 1420, ACT 30 (I think these are what saved me from my rank)
I think my essays were also pretty good; I only submitted two (A & B), but they solid (at least a 9/10 for A, probably closer to a 7/10 for B). I also submitted three letters of rec-all of which were splendid and very kind. I think my true saving grace, aside from my test scores, was a letter written by my English III teacher from last year.
So if you’re still waiting to hear back, just keep in mind that I was lucky enough to get in being at the very bottom of the top quarter. There is still hope for everyone!
Good luck to all still waiting to hear back!
Are all Plan 2 decisions out
hope result will come out soon
@Aaribm Please look at this website:

And scroll down to:
Nonresidents Enrolled in the Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan or Texas Tuition Promise Fund

I called. The catch is that the money has to be in the fund for at least three before it can be redeemed.
Does anyone know if it is too late to send in a recommendation letter?
I am no expert but I would go ahead and upload the letter. I know they allow continuous updating of resumes though the document upload so this should work the same? Worst case, it never gets seen; but at least it’s there just in case.
@Aaribm, yes you should qualify for in-state tuition for your 2nd year. Make sure you have plenty of proof that you and your parents have lived in Texas for 12 months before 2nd year. That means - register to vote in Texas, change to Texas drivers license, change auto registration to Texas, cell phone billing address is in Texas, etc.
If someone could please rate my chances, I would be so grateful! My nerves from waiting are killing me.

Thank you!
@lucy711 UW GPA may be a little low, but ACT is good and new SAT isn’t bad either. Objectively, I think you have a great shot at COLA, one of the less competitive schools
:)) hey y’all still anxiously waiting to find out if i got offered admissions to my first choice major; chemistry! wondering there are any other chem majors out there waiting to here back or have been accepted.
Not sure how many of you have seen it but UT Admissions confirmed on Twitter that the majority of applicants have not heard back yet, which is kind of reassuring.
@funyunz How is it reassuring? The decisions have been made but just not posted yet. Simple.
@sean191297 --it’s reassuring because students can realize there is still hope
