Any chemistry majors been accepted yet/out there? :-/

Guys, have all of you applied for fall 2017?

Considering that this is the ‘Class of 2021’ thread I’m pretty sure most if not all of us have applied for admission beginning fall 2017.

Right. I am curious as to whether Summer applications are weighed against Fall applications. Can I have an answer to this? Do summer applicants compete against fall applicants?

Can you apply in the summer for the class of 2021? I think the deadline was December first…

Can’t wait until I hear back. I guess they do it school by school and usually it’s mid to late february for most, including myself

@BrickBean I’m assuming you’re talking about 2017’s summer which is nigh. If it is so, I’m afraid you cannot unless you have taken college courses and can transfer those credits to college to speed up your bachelor’s education so that you can graduate on time (which is 2021) but then again you have to apply for spring 2018 which is the first semester right after fall 2017. Good luck, mate!

@sean191297 In response to your comment that decisions have been made already, no they haven’t. It’s very probable that they have been reviewed through a round in the admissions process, but I would guess that most decisions are going through a round when “admissions liaisons, and/or representatives of Deans’ offices or faculty, then
make decisions as to which cells to select as admitted students”, after having reviewed apps. Basically a committee round.

Maybe this also explains why additional updated documents are not guaranteed to be seen due to the nature of their decisions process. Some applicants might be categorized as qualified, others not competitive or qualified, or competitive. Those not qualified or competitive probably won’t be reviewed again, those qualified also probably won’t be reviewed again, therefore not seeing your updated documents. I would suppose that those competitive have to go through the committee rounds, where the committee may see your additional updated documents. Considering the amount of applicants, this would definitely take a long time.

Having to compare a huge amount of competitive applicants would prove to be difficult and time consuming since there are so many factors to consider, since not every applicant is the same.

Hopefully the admission decision release dates will go along the historical trends. Less than a month to go!

@sean191297 I completely misinterpreted your original question. I thought you meant you were going to apply this coming summer! I am so sorry. Just realized you meant you applied in 2016.

@BrickBean lol and I misinterpreted yours haha. No worries; all that was gained was knowledge.

I actually applied for fall 2017 but then I changed the term to summer 2017 (unfortunately it was too late for spring 2017) because I was done with high school a year ago according to US standards.

@cypatx33 You have a really good chance of being accepted to your first choice major (second choice doesn’t count), but prepare yourself for the worst. Many applicants with high stats like yours don’t get in because their essays aren’t that good enough. Assuming you have excellent essays, Cockrell’s already placed its bet on you :stuck_out_tongue:

Look at me for example. I don’t have a high SAT score but I do have perfect gpa, strong ECs, superb essays. I too have been accepted to TAMU and Colorado School of Mines for petroleum engineering, and now expecting to hear from UT and Stanford to make a revolution with my SAT score. I wish you best of luck! Stay positive and the wait will be worth it.

@sean191297 thank you!! what do you mean by second choice doesn’t count though?

@cypatx33 According to previous data and words of Gavin Martin, the UT admissions guy (sc: youtube), around 90% of the admits are given their first choice. UT does not give much importance to the second choice as they think their students would not be satisfied with their second choice. But then again, decisions change.

If my second choice is given importance over the first, then we’ll be crashing into each other soon haha.

Do any of yall know when the next wave of acceptances will come out?

From their Twitter: “We’ll be releasing fall 2017 admission decisions for U.S. freshman apps by March 1”
Just expect it by then, and anything early is a bonus. Honors should be going out within the next few weeks, if you’re applying to that.

I believe someone said that a large wave is expected on Feb 17? I hope so, I already heard back from TAMU, Wisc, and Purdue D:
