UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

@lavastorm Where did you find the info that 75% of students are auto admit? From the UT website it says for enrolled freshman:
Texas Students Automatically Admitted: 1236
Texas Students Not Automatically Admitted: 1303
Out-of-State Students: 1343
International Students: 1304

It seems that just 23% of enrolled students are auto-admit. Not sure how this translates to the admitted pool, but it seems likely the yield is lower among the auto-admit pool based on an assumed higher admission statistic profile for the group-- this would mean likely more than 23% of the total admitted pool are auto-admits but hard to believe it is as high as 75%. Also, there are still auto-admits who have not been admitted to a major and these students could be included in the 8500 number.

@CollegeParent123 You are showing SAT scores for the admitted students, not numbers of students. The numbers are set by the Top 10% law or House Bill 588. Texas must admit up to 75% of their freshman class through the rules of this law. Also 10% of the class is reserved for out-of-state and international. That leaves 15% of the class for review admits. I think your last sentence is the real answer in that the 8500 being admitted Feb 17th also includes admitted students that don’t have a major yet.

My bad. Your are right those are SAT scores. But I have never seen statistics of how may applicants or enrolled are from the auto-admit pool and would like to know it. The House Bill 588 states that UT Austin can limit the number of auto-admits to 75% of their class but by no means indicates that 75% of the admitted are from the auto-admit pool. Would love to find the stat though if you know where to find it…

My daughter’s portal changed today too with the Financial Aid tab added below when you click dashboard…hmmmmm…

Its all here… https://sps.austin.utexas.edu/sites/ut/IRRIS/Pages/Stat-Handbook.aspx

@lavastorm That is 9 years old and based on top 10% being admitted rather than the Bill modifications which now creates a top 7% auto admit. I can’t find any data on % of total admits that are in the auto-admit pool from recent years.

@CollegeParent123 https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions

Edit: Also I believe that the UT admissions twitter tweeted that they have yet to give out decisions to the majority of applicants

my dashboard changed as well to now having a total of 4 tabs

Fall. 2017 Freshman Admissions
Fall 2017 Housing
Fall 2017 Financial Aid
Fall 2017 Scholarship

this is new yesterday i only had 3 Tabs.

My sons changed as well, now showing financial aid under the dashboard.

Mine changed today too with the Financial Aid tab added below when you click dashboard…nervous! @mtreu20 are you OOS?

A story on UT News from Sept. 2016 says that UT Austin welcomed its largest freshman class ever for the year 2016-2017 with 8,719 total enrollment for first-time freshman. They received 47,511 freshman applications, an increase of 9% over the previous year.

I’ve had financial aid tab for over 2 months now. I am 10%. For people who recently started recieving new tabs, what are your ranks? Im dying waiting for desicions to be posted…

@CollegeParent123 @lavastorm Per the Kroll report in 2015, the number of “discretionary” (non-auto-admit) seats in each freshman class is around 1500-1800 (including OOS and international), and UT admits about 3000-4000 “discretionary” students to fill those spots. Again from the 2015 Kroll report: there are about 23,000 - 24,000 discretionary applicants per year, of which only 3000-4000 will be admitted to fill those 1500-1800 spots. That’s about a 12-17% acceptance rate for non-auto-admits, by my calculations. (The numbers could be a little higher now. Last year, they admitted a larger freshman class because they had been successful at clearing some “backlog” by encouraging more students to graduate in 4 years.) I don’t know the breakdown of the discretionary applicants/admits as to whether they are in- or out-of-state. And of course the admission rate probably varies quite a bit by major.

@sean191297 none of those indications have anything to do with being accepted. I know it’s hard, but stop overthinking and be patient. Next week there is a huge wave so maybe you’ll find out then.

@lavastorm @CollegeParent123 Last year they admitted more than 17000- I remember it being in the news that they were planning to admit more than 18000. the data set for this year’s class is not up yet but it is the largest freshman class ever. I expect this coming year they will also admit more than 17000.

does anyone know if UT offers an alternative for rejected people?

for example, when they deny you, they offer you to go to one of their branch schools for a year and then be admitted to the main campus.

was just denied from A&M but was offered the alternative.

@nnk123 UT offers the CAP and PACE programs.

thanks

Anyone else receive a UTSA “Future Roadrunner” email today? This cannot be a good sign.
