I just got CAP’d from McCombs
GPA: 3.85
SAT: 1140
Rank: 29 out of 194
I honestly thought I was gonna get rejected because of my low SAT score but luckily I was CAP’d. If I do the CAP system do I get automatic acceptance to McCombs sophomore year? I’m trying to decide if I should do this or go to Baylor.
@CollegeParent123 Thank you so much for your kind remarks. You really helped take the sting out of a bad situation. Best of luck to you and yours as well.
Capped 1st choice - Economics 2nd - Government
1430 SAT + 31 ACT
Disappointed is an understatement
In State: Private School also
Yeah I understand the pain. I’ve seen people get into Government with much much lower scores sadly. Ah, well. C’est la vie. I’m only 23 after all.
lol
I got into Moody as a RTF major. OOS.
Stats: 3.88 uw, 4.15w, 2040 SAT
Class Rank: 26/473
4 AP classes
Define lower scores please
D has two good school acceptances but CAP’ed at McComb. Is it worth it to wait another year? (3.9GPA,2300SAT)
@mruckett23 The only guarantee with CAP is COLA. And there will be many already AT UT trying to transfer into MCCombs…GO TO BAYLOR
Only guaranteed liberal arts… you have to apply for school of choice and hope you get accepted…
My heart goes out to those of you who didn’t get the result you wanted. I know it’s hard but stay positive, there are plenty of other great schools out there.
If my DD had been CAP or PACE, I would be advising her to go to one of the other great schools in Texas. UT Austin is a great school, but there are also other great schools in Texas and around the country. Sending congrats to those accepted and hugs to those that were not.
Okay, my son was in the similar situation a year ago and was accepted in to PACE. … private, in-state school and students with lower stats admitted. Admissions at UT make no sense and my best advice is “Go Boston College Eagles”! UT, with their silly matrix/auto-admit #s, miss out on a ton of qualified, in-state, excellent private school students. CAP is a gamble. Moving forward and choosing BC is a great option! That’s what my son did and is now a very happy USC Trojan and he has never looked back or regretted his choice. UT did him a favor, in my opinion. Congrats to the other students and realistically, there are so many other excellent colleges to choose from. Good luck!
@TXmom1234 ok thanks for the advice!
Sigh … DS denied for CS. In state, top 14% of class, 1580 new SAT, 35 ACT, National Merit finalist, very rigorous courseload, 5 on AP CS, and what I thought were great essays, recs, and ECs. His brother was admitted to CS two years ago with lower stats. Pretty surprised that he was not even offered PACE - though it wouldn’t have been an attractive option to him. Super disappointing, but now I will have to take my own advice and move on. He does have other good options and nice scholarship offers so we will have to try to focus on that. Still tough when I know his heart was at UT.
@TexasMom2017 Wow… I would appeal (I know nothing about that process fyi) if those were your scores. I had a 1570, top 10%, NMF, and was looking at UT as a safety/backup and definitely would not have expected a denial for CS.
Congratulations to everyone!
LMAOOO. Rejected from UT (in-state). However, I was accepted out of state, after being deferred, to UMichigan - Ann Arbor.
Anyone know how hard it is to do internal transferring at UT? i got cap’d and i’m considering it but my desired major is chemistry at the CNS. i have no interest in doing anything in the liberal arts college. any info helps!
My D is studying ME as a junior. She tells me often that friends transfer into McCombs. A dear friend was UTSA capped and transferred in. Hard, yes but possible.
I’m shocked by some of these scores and results. Just looked at my son’s page and was pleasantly surprised he was CAP for McCombs. Wasn’t expecting that but also wasn’t expecting a PSA (rejection, in our opinion) from TAMU. My third kid through the college application process and I still don’t understand.
