I thought I would start this post for students trying to get into The Cockrell School of Engineering. My D is still waiting to hear, and we are hoping she is in the next wave this Friday (non-auto, non-ranking school). Please list if you have gotten in and if you are auto or non-auto. My D’s honor app for engineering says under review, and we are hoping this means she is in because they don’t review the honors app for engineering if you aren’t accepted into an engineering major. If you applied to the Honors Engineering Program, please list if you app says complete or complete and under review (maybe it says this for everyone).
Great idea on creating this post! My S is in the same situation. TX resident, homeschool/non-rank, thinking non-auto but checking on it this morning. Admission page states “We have all the items we need to make your admission decision. As soon as your decision is made, it will be posted on this page and you’ll be notified by mail.” The honor app page states, “Your application(s) for Engineering Honors and Dean’s Scholars are complete.” and “We’re reviewing your Engineering/Dean’s Scholars application.” I think the honor’s app status page auto defaults to under review as my S page immediately had this status upon submission. Has your D received a notification of acceptance/admission?
My D’s application is still under review, and that is why we were hopeful that the reviewing of the honors application meant she was accepted and not notified yet. However, I think you are right, and the honors status app defaults to under review. Ugh! We are on pins and needles waiting to hear something!
I spoke to an Austin Admissions Counselor yesterday and she stated:
~50,000 applicants;
2.4% (1200) were informed of program decision to date, 80% (960) were auto-admit; 20% (240 were not auto-admit);
75% of freshman class has to be auto-admits;
90% of freshman class have to be Texas residents;
Auto-admits might not get desired program (i.e. Engineering);
Applicants by priority deadline will receive notification by 2/1/18 regardless if auto-admit/residency.
From my count on the other thread as of yesterday, 6 self-reported as auto-admit and receiving admission to an Engineering Program (1 Mech, 1 Elec, 1 Aero, 1 Bio, and 2 Chem).
Wow @jsg2018 -thank you for posting! I think engineering students will find out closer to February, but I am still hoping we hear in the next round!
I wonder if there was a slight decrease in applicants this year, as you said there were 50,000 applicants, and I think there were 52,000 for 2017 class. Just curious, as I just assumed the applicants would continue to trend upwards.
She just stated approximately 50,000, it might well be 52,000 or a bit more
Anyone accepted student could post the stats?
