I am a non auto-admit and applied Early Decision. I am pretty sure I will not get in since I am an in state student, but just want to know so I can figure out for sure where I am going. Does anyone know if we will hear before the latest date of February 1st or will it be on that exact date?
@Kd6410 Class Rank is included in EVERY SINGLE AI formula used by the colleges at UT.- They only use the top 7 percent stat to admit you into the university itself but rank plays into EVERY single decision they make- look at the AI formulas. rank is more important in some of the colleges( mccombs uses it more heavily in their AI than COLA ) but they all use it.
@leathershirts my daughter applied in October - maybe around the 9th or so.
@ggbucks i heard that also but I was told when I asked UT austin admissions that they aren’t going to defer from Feb 1 to March 1. I guess people will know soon enough:-)
I saw that last year a lot of in state non-autos heard January 20th which was the third Friday. Hopefully us early applicants will hear this Friday, the 19th, but who knows.
@ggbucks the ivies give decisions in April- unless you do binding.
@tb2000 I know that’s why I am saying rank is super important to UT, probably the most important factor. And I believe Ivy Day this year is March 28
Does anyone know what a “good” AI score is for McCombs.
did a wave come out today?
Can someone link me to the Reddit thread?
Thanks
Is the Feb. 1 deadline only for acceptances into UT? How about majors?
@austexlonghorn interesting prospective but i have not really heard of anyone being admitted other than high achieving , noon diverse kids from solid " exemplary" schools so far. Maybe some of the reviewers are just quicker than others. I still think that - other than honors being reviewed earlier - its a pretty random process as far as who hears when.
@OWNHAY by now, all auto admits have received their university acceptance and would be waiting only on major. Anyone who is not an auto admit is reviewed and accepted based on the fact that they receive acceptance into the major they applied to or their second choice major. so unless you are an auto admit- it is all the same process and you find out acceptance and major at the same time.
@Kd6410 you actually said that the rank only counts for admission to university- not major thats why i mentioned that it does count for your major- each AI includes Rank. Also, you mentioned that it really isn’t holistic- half of the criteria comes from your PAI score which is all holistic type stuff. This is why you will see people with top rank and scores being declined- if you don’t get upper 5 or a 6 in PAI there is no way you will get your major at UT.
also- whether the ivy date is march 28 or april 1- it is still way later than UT. I mention that because i was responding to someone else who said IVY schools give decisions way sooner than UT- they do not.
when calling admissions- I would always call Austin. I don’t think the other offices are kept in the loop with respect to things like dates of the waves. - that small wave that came in december ( the week before the bigger one which came on the 15) the local person told my school counselor that there was not going to be a wave that day. The next week he told her- “yeah they had not told us about that one” i also do not believe that they will defer at the end of February for anyone who applied by nov 1. I specifically asked this in September to an admissions person in UT austin and she said deferral is not something they would do.-
@tb2000 I agree that they do a holistic review for your major, but not for admission to the university itself. Which is true according to the book.
I didn’t see the comment you were responding to about Ivy day, but it is definitely true that UT gives decisions out before. Way before might be an exaggeration, especially if you get deferred until March 1
@Sloth777 What Reddit thread?
@Kd6410 I really do not think they will defer anyone from the priority deadline. i was told by UT admissions that that was not a thing they were doing,
@tb2000 The person who stated this said they contacted an AO as well - it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest but I hope it’s not true…
people can get rejected though, right?
