Will I get into the Cockrell School at UT? Also, will I get into Chemical Engineering? I just completed my junior year of high school.
My stats:
1480 SAT- 760 math and 720 english
I am taking the ACT in july and I am aiming for at least a 33
I have also taken the Math 2 and chemistry subject tests but the scores haven’t come out yet
I have taken AP Physics 1 and AP chemistry this year but scores havent come out yet. I predict at least a 4 on both exams
4 on AP Computer Science
36/784 in my class
Next year, I plan to take AP Physics C, AP Calculus BC, AP Lit, and tech apps as well as band
As far as extra curriculars are concerned- I am on the varsity marching band and I am part of the leadership team of my school’s band. I am also in some other clubs but I have no prestige or significance in them.
If you live in Texas, you should be admitted to a UT school since you’re in the top 7 percent. Given that, the Cockrell School is a more prestigious one, so bringing your ECs up might do you well. Your SATs aren’t terrible, and your ACTs shouldn’t be too bad either, but keep in mind that grades aren’t everything.
That said, the Cockrell School of Engineering is beautiful! I had the wonderful opportunity of touring the campus this summer (I was at a camp there) and they had just finished rebuilding it.
Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it! Do you think I will get into Chemical Engineering at A&M?
You will definitely get into engineering at A&M. The past few years, A&M did not accept directly into a subset of engineering. You got to apply second semester to a specific engineering program. For acceptance, they looked at both GPA and ECs. They keep changing things each year, so make sure you know how they are doing it next year.
