Hi everyone,
I got my ACT scores, and my composite was a 30.
My breakdown was:
35 Math
33 Reading
26 Science
25 Writing
I was wondering if these scores are good enough for UT Austin Computer Science? Since I’m taking a math-based major (computer science), I was wondering if my writing and science scores would really matter for UT Austin’s computer science course?
Thanks.
What’s your English score and essay score? One of the scores are mixed up in your post.
Your class rank is equal if not more important than your ACT scores. My understanding is that the only scores that affect your acceptance are your writing score, math score, and English score.
@Jpgranier
My writing score is an 8.
My English score a 25.
I apologize for the mix-up.
The big questions are you in state and what is your rank? If you are in state and in top 7%, your odds of acceptance become much higher.
@GTAustin In-state, and my rank is top 15%.
I think it’s a reach for any in-state auto-admit without a 33-34. I know a number of students who were top 5% who did not get CS, or even Cockrell.
My daughter brought her Science score up from a 23 the first time she took the ACT to a 31 the second time, so it’s doable to bring the score up with studying.
Your scores are not good enough in the competitive pool of CS candidates.
Why don’t you get some tutoring to bring up your science scores?
As others are saying, UT CS is a reach. It is a reach for most students. Make sure you have a good safety school. At UT Dallas, you could study CS and possible be able to get an AES scholarship.
Update: I was accepted into Computer science!
Congratulations! I’m glad we were all wrong. BTW, congratulations on your AES scholarship as well.
