UT Austin, daughter admitted almost two month ago, still no FA offer

My daughter was admitted to UT Austin almost two months ago but still does not have any FA offer. The status says FA is under review.

Is this normal? when can we expect FA offer finally?

It is not unusual for schools to release all need based aid offers together, when RD admissions offers go out. My daughter was accepted to her school (years ago) in October, but FA decisions weren’t released until Feb.

You can check with them.

Probably within a few weeks, but with your income the “aid” will be loans.

Are you instate?

Have you run the Net Price Calculator to get an idea?

@Al73 UT Austin release aid packages mid-March. So, you should start looking for the package next week (week of March 16th).

I know you have twins heading off to college…but are you expecting a need based financial aid package from UT-Austin? I don’t think you will be receiving need based aid.

Or are you talking about merit aid?

now that I see your income and assets, I’m wondering…what exactly are you waiting for? what are you expecting to see?

are you wanting to take out a loan to pay for college?

what did your FAFSA EFC indicate?

@mom2collegekids here you go.

And as I wrote in response to this when it was posted by the OP…it sounds right. Almost $2 million in non-retirement assets would be about $100,000 as part of the EFC…and that $350,000 income could easily add an additional $100,000.

So…$107,000 per twin…not out of the realm of probability.

But the EFC most definitely would be in excess of the cost of attendance at most colleges…even if it was only $80,000 per twin.

We checked today (3/17) on her UT Austin portal and MY FINANCIAL AID tab for fall 2020 still appears as “Your financial aid award information is not yet available.”

I wonder if it is just us or everyone has the same situation and when financial package will be available? Should we contact the FA/admission office?

We got financial package for all colleges she has been admitted to within few weeks except GT that says it will be available in April.

What are you packages looking like at similar publics?

What need based aid are you expecting with your income and assets?

We got 10K scholarship at UNC at Chapel Hill and more than 13K at Rutgers. We are still waiting for package from Duke.

And 8K I believe from USC at San Diego

I am not talking about FA. I want to see the financial package of the admission offer. So far every admission we got contained at least some discount.

Well pick up the phone.

What is USC San Diego?

Sorry. It is UC at San Diego

???
The acronyms for our SoCal schools can be confusing.

USC is the University of Southern California is a private university in Los Angeles.

UCSD is the University of California at San Diego in La Jolla and is a public university funded by the taxpayers of California.

USD is the University of San Diego is a private, “Catholic-based” university.

UCSD does not provide funding for non-residents. It’s a public school. They have a few scholarships, but not enough to cover tuition.
USD and USC are private, but expensive universities.

I have a friend, at UCSD admissions, who says that they often see people arrive at UCSD, in August, and there is no record of the student. (Plus, arriving on an empty campus is a huge clue that something is wrong-UCSD is on the quarter system and doesn’t begin until late September).
The parents then begin pulling out acceptance letters and information letters only to see that they say “USD”;
they’ve arrived at the wrong school.

I checked with my daughter. It is University of California at San Diego in La Jolla

What is the $8K of fin aid from UCSD? (from post #11)

UT merit offers were already granted, or at the very least students notified they were finalists for those grants. Since you obviously arent eligible for need based aid, the published tuition and fees on the website would apply.

Yes.
