UT Austin - even worth considering? Which majors?

Is UT even in the realm of possibilities for D20? 1200 SAT, top 20%, high accomplishments in music. Interested in sociology and music majors, assume that would be COLA and BSOM? Is one easier than the other for admission? Should she even bother? Thoughts welcomed.

Sorry, forget to include she is in-state.

Does she graduate 2020? For 2019 it’s to late.
I don’t know much about their music program, I have heard lots of great things about Texas State and UNT‘s Music program.
If she is not an Autoadmid, this year was top 6%, it gets very competitive the average SÄT Scores are more in the 1400 for the ones that don‘t make the 6%. She should definitely apply, there are so many more factors that come into play, apart from academics. She should submit a very detailed resume and include EVERYTHING! This could fall into her reach schools and definitely add a few safety and match schools to her list.

The most competitive programs at UT are engineering, Business and Computer Science. Liberal arts is less competitive compared to those.

Thank you, this is helpful. She is class of 2020. I doubt she will be up to 1400 on the SAT but who knows. UNT is on our radar, for sure.

My son is class of 2021 and is interested in UT for Music as well. I told him to have UNT as a back up too, their music program is suppose to be really good. Good luck to your daughter!! My daughter is graduating this year from UT, she was auto admit but my son on the other hand will not be even close he is the top 20% as of right now.
