UT Austin Fall 2019 Transfer

Does anybody know why this thread isn’t as active as threads have been in the past? Last falls transfer thread was at nearly 100 pages by now…

honestly guys it seems really unlikely that we’re gonna hear back now. I’m checking last year’s thread and it seems like the earliest anyone heard back was 4/30 and the majority of people heard back in June. I’m probably going to keep checking everyday lol, but I really am not expecting anything until May.

@mperez172 on page 261 of the ut austin 2017/2018 thread, you can see the Fall 2018 Transfer list and people actually got their decisions as early as 4/9

it does seem like the bulk of people got in after April though, I just think it might ease our nerves if we aren’t expecting decisions everyday the rest of the month

@Gtownboogie hey, our second major choice is the same and our GPA’s are super close! Hoping for the best!

Awesome!! Best of luck to you!!

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.5
Hours: 70 but only 67 transfer
LOR: None
Essays: I believe I did somewhat decent.
Extra: Part of PTK

I’m hoping we hear back soon. I am considering Texas Tech as my back up. My original plan was to accept Texas Tech tomorrow. However, I may hold out until May 3rd for UT decision. This is my dream college. My worst fear is the minute I accept Texas Tech, UT will accept me. It honestly depends on the amount of dorms at TTU. If they drop below a certain amount, goodbye UT. Fingers crossed decisions come out soon.

@MoonlightLaw you can always put down a deposit for TexasTech, and then if UT accepts you, cancel it. The only thing is that you won’t get your deposit back.

I’ve been stalking this thread for a while so I figure I might as well join in the conversation to pass the time while we wait on decisions.

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.93
Hours: 50
Essays: I think are good, but I didn’t spend as much time as I should have on them because I decided to apply to UT late in the game.
LORs: 2 really great ones from my boss and a professor.
Extracurricular: Only 1 volunteer experience, but it’s a nonprofit that I helped found in 2010 so I have 500+ hours.

Im concerned because I have been working full time since graduating high school and have only really taken classes off and on/ part-time. I explained this in my essay, but I’m just worried they won’t be confident that I can handle full-time. Does anyone know of someone who only went part-time and was able to transfer into UT?

I’ll join the thread as well. I’ve been working really hard for the last two years and getting into a top 10 engineering school would be incredibly satisfying.

Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 3.92
Hours: ~50
Essays: Two, both proofread by my Dean and English professor
LOR’s: 3; Dean of Science and Math Division, one Chemistry Professor, one Research Advisor
Extracurricular: 2 published research projects, both funded by NASA grants/scholarships
2 years training as an MMA fighter and acting as a submission grappling instructor.
Secretary of Veterans Club for one year, President for the next year.
8 years experience USMC Cyber Network Operator and Embassy Security Guard.

I’m afraid transferring from a community college out of state (Ohio) may cause a lot of trouble with transferring credits that will make me less competitive. Also, I haven’t completed any coding, computer, or engineering related classes except Physics for engineers, but I do have Calc 3. I may meet the requirements for the engineering transfer prerequisites, but maybe not for Electrical Engineering.

@Ramshorn Semper Fi. I had the same question (I qualify as in-state as a TX resident but I attend school in Maryland). I was told and have found thru research that transferrability of credits is not evaluated until AFTER you are admitted. Transferrability of course work is not factored into admission decision. GPA and the level of challenge the courses appear to present is what is looked at.

@Txgirl99 Are you sure that’s true? UT has course guides specifically for transfer students to ensure that the courses you take will transfer… also I have access to my degree audit and it shows the courses I’ve taken at community college and shows how they’ve counted towards my degree.

FWIW, here’s a link for the degree audit tool. It’s usually accessed through UT Direct. All transfer applicants should have access to it. But I don’t think having access to it is meaningful in any way (from what I understand). And it doesn’t include in-progress classes (at least my audit doesn’t).

@mperez172 See the last paragraph on this link: https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/transfer-resources

I understand that to mean that transferrability isn’t determined during the admissions process. However, they also state that you must have 24+ hours of transferrable coursework successfully completed. When I called the admissions representatives, they told me that transferrability is determined after admission to the university.

Ohh okay, I never knew that

Hey theres other Marines here! I did 4 years as an aviation ordnanceman. I applied for transfer to a biochem. I currently go to University of Houston and have a 3.84 GPA with 2 LOA’s and some decent essays. I hope we get in!

today could be the day people!!

At this point, I am eager for anyone to hear something back!!

@sspears1893 Rah! I hope so, too.

If anyone does get in tonight please post on the forum what your college is so the others have an idea of what to expect. Thanks and best of luck to everyone!
