UT Austin Fall 2019 Transfer

Another person got accepted to COFA today. Not sure their stats, but there was certainly a wave.

@MAXDAD someone else was just accepted on discord for cofa. It was for studio art as well

Are there any cola majors still in review? If so what major?

@jeanmarie SMU’s a really solid school! SMU’s campus is beautiful and its in a pretty good spot in Dallas. Since it’s a private uni the class sizes are smaller, but it’s also pretty expensive. I applied using their April 1 deadline for fall applicants and heard back a little over 2 weeks later. Transferring into SMU is usually not as competitive as it is to get into UT Austin, but that being said UT outranks SMU in basically all academic categories.

@TexasRaph Thanks for the insight. I am a prospective RTF major and if I don’t get accepted to UT I wanted to check out SMUs film program. For me it’s all about specialization in curriculum versus being a regular communications major but I’m glad to hear you say good things about it. Thanks!

I’m a COLA still in review for IR major

I’m also still in review for COLA international Relations, I really thought COLA decisions would be released my mid April.

@Manelsea2000 me too. that’s how they did it in years past but they seem to be doing something new. I heard they over accepted last year and are trying to prevent that from happening again. Someone on discord said they hired new admissions officers so maybe they have a new plan in place for accepting transfers students.

for the people who have been accepted (if you’re still in here), did you receive an email saying that your status has been changed or did you just log into MyStatus and found out there?

Bad news today for this household:

My son was Denied today at 11:00am through MYStatus. No email.

We are pretty shocked.

He applied for:
COFA/Design
35 hours / 3.74
2 LOR
Strong Portfolio

He has already been accepted to UTSA and TX State but UT was his first choice. TX State has a solid design program so he will probably go that route.

@MAXDAD sorry to hear that. Texas State is my back up too.

sorry @MAXDAD my heart goes out to your son. :frowning:

@MAXDAD sorry to hear about that, both schools have smaller programs that could be better in the long run!

Thanks yall. Still grumpy about the whole thing. What puzzles me is I told him to watch his grades this semester, making sure they didn’t dip down and he got all A’s. Just cant figure out their process…

@MAXDAD I’m so sorry to hear that but I hope it’s all for better! If you don’t mind me asking, what was his second choice major?

He didn’t have a second choice major as the Design program is pretty specific. This major you can only start in the Fall. I’m thinking it is a very limited program as far as space availability. 10 students per instructor ratio…leads me to believe they accept small numbers and transfers are the bottom of the bunch.

@MAXDAD Now you made me stressed… I’m design major too. Last year when I visited they told me the acceptance rate for design is about 50% overall so for a transfer it’s probably much less. The worst thing is that our grades don’t matter that much, it’s all about the portfolio. I have 60 credits and 4.0 GPA, and I’m stressing out about my decision that hasn’t come yet.

@MAXDAD Did you send UT his transcripts for this semester before he was denied? I am debating sending mine for CNS, even though they’re all A’s and I have a 4.0 for 38 hours now. I have read that it can hurt you to send them if they do not ask for them.

No, we did not send his grades for this semester.
