UT Austin Financial Aid

Idk if i get into Austin or not (engineering)
anyways i really wanna go but…
i make like 80k and i am form CA, so UT is like 50k
do they offer lot of scholarships (i have 1460 and 4.17)?
or how are they for fincnaicla aid?
i heard they barely give out money which really sucks…

UT austin would be a waste of an application as you are OOS/don’t have top stats/ have fantasies about FA or merit.
Look at schools that you can affrod. and are an academic match for. Be realistic. Look at your matches instate.

so is UT a complete waste of money???
its one of my dream schools stho…

anyone^^^^^^^^
i really like UT Austin but its too expensive and seems to have low aid for OOS. so i shouldn’t apply at all?

UT does not offer much merit aid and most of the financial aid is loans. If you are coming from CA, I would definitely apply to your in state schools. You have alot of good choices and they would be more affordable. Apply to UT and see if you are accepted to your major and what financial aid that you might get but don’t depend on it.

so should i apply or not?

anyone^^^^
pros of applying- i would wanna go
cons- i might not get in
probably is too costly
3 essays for 1 school!

You don’t have the money. I’m not knowledgeable about UT specifically but Texas public schools aren’t known for lavishing massive scholarships on OOS students. Ergo, you can’t expect to get the aid that would enable you to afford it. There are no magic unicorns, sadly. My d isn’t applying to a ton of schools she’d love to go to, because we don’t have the money either.

It’s a waste of money to apply to UT. They don’t have financial aid for OOS applicants.
So, forget it.
If you like Texas, look at UHouston Honors (being battered right now but Honors College has gotten pretty good and good for engineering) and UTD (AES and CollegiumV).
Check out Tulane?

k thx for the advice
UT is out
i actually had tulane on my list before but i took it out
How much merit aid would i get?
also is it good for engineering- specificallly material or chemical?

I don’t think they have material engineering. Look it up.
You have to run the NPC (type NPC Tulane in your search engine).

can someone chance me for tulane and scholarhsips
3.72 UW, 4.17 W, 750 chem and 720 math2, 7 ap’s by sneior year, science olympiad event coordinator and tutor

  1. Regular SAT score?
  2. Have you run the NPC first?
  1. 1460
  2. it said i would get 25k in scholarship

you’d be eligible for a partial scholarship but nowhere near full tuition.
what’s your budget and what would your net cost be?
TUlane costs about 70K a year so 25K in possible scholarships brings the total cost to 45K… is that affordable for your parents from income and savings? (That’s an above-average annual salary for a middle class employee.)

yeh i guess its pretty expensive.
i think my max budget is like 40k.
UC’s are fine, and also Minnesota if i get aid.
Alabama and CSU’s are my cheapest options

Tulane gave amazing need based aid to someone we know. Your income and stats are very close to that students stats and income. It might be worth a shot if they have the program you are looking for. They highly consider interest though so you need to show the love.

so for me to have a high chance of admission and lot of money, do I have to do a lot of visits, community service, interviews, etc…?
