UT Austin Freshman Application Count Increase for 2015

The number of entering freshman applications UT Austin has received so far for fall 2015 is 12% greater than the total number received for fall 2014. That's a pretty substantial one-year increase, so what it takes to be admitted this year is likely to be different than last year.

Where did you get these information? I just want to see some statistics.Thank you!!

Oh, that is just great news… :o3

That’s probably because the number of automatic admission students are greater this year. If class sizes in Texas are increasing, that would explain this statistic. For non-auto admit people, this sucks, I admit.

Has UT published this statistic? Or where did you see it? UT changes the class rank required to be automatically admitted each year. It’s supposed to keep the number of auto-admits at a number that will fill 75% of the available Texas resident spaces each year.

Damn… that means the profs are gonna up their weed-out game

That’s a really gloomy perspectice. Perhaps choose another school?
Either way, A LOT of the auto admits end up not going to UT due to finances involved. Low income minorities attend their local universities or, if they’re strong applicants, UT-Dallas and Texas A&M.
In other words, don’t worry if you’re waitlisted due to how many apps they receive. You can appeal later.

@Fredjan UT has a reputation to maintain as a public Ivy and so yes, their profs will make their courses in a way “harder” to ensure that the student body isn’t a bunch of slackers who just slipped in based on class rank. I know that many people do turn down their offers but this also means that the freshman class will be larger than the previous year so competition for majors will increase since UT doesn’t follow a first-come first-serve basis like A&M. I have already applied to UT, got in, and now I’m just waiting on my major :)

lol OilBaron, wait until class registration during your orientation. If this information is true, I suggest you sign-up for the earliest orientation possible  You won’t even have the chance to be weeded out if you can’t get in the class in the first place haha

@ashjackson - Not really. Automatic admits are up by about 850, but total freshman fall applications are up by about 4700.
@Fredjan - Many, perhaps most, auto admits who end up not going to UT do so because they go to their 1st-choice university; UT Austin is their safety school.

Ah, that’s also true.
