UT Austin Freshmen 2019

Hey! I was just wondering what classes do freshmen take for their first year. Also, how hard are english and science classes? Any informative suggestions & inputs are great!

Really depends on your major, which is yours officially besides the pre pharm designation?

Science for science majors is definitely rigorous at UT, more so than science courses for liberal arts etc obviously. The English courses aren’t that bad unless you just really dislike writing or it takes away from your science courses. Not uncommon to take the English at community college

They will help you with all of that at orientation. The english classes are great, not too bad, but expect to pace yourself on your reading assignments. The profs said the biggest struggle for kids is when they place out of an entry level science or math and go straight into a more advanced one. They warned to not take the credit for calculus, specifically. If you can, try and take just 12 hours your first semester until you find your groove.

@Longhorns061012 Hey I have a question regarding one of the English classes, RHE 306. How difficult is this class? Also, am I able to transfer the credit from a different university/cc if I take it during this summer & fall? If so, how?

@Longhorns061012 Oops, I forgot to answer your question above.

I’m not sure what you mean by “besides the pre pharm designation”, but I was admitted to the College of Natural Sciences “Undeclared/Pre-Pharmacy”.

@Oldhorn I’ve being warned by my HS calc teacher to just take the credit and skip into calc 3 since it seems like calc 2 is being used as a “weed-out” class. Can you offer any insight into this area?
