I want to attend UT Austin's McCombs School of Business, and I am wondering if I have a good shot at getting accepted.
By the way, Business Practicum is a program where you have a Business class and 2 OJT(On Job Training) periods(last period of each day) where you have a paid internship at a local business.
Would living in another country through the Rotary organization for a year help me get accepted? Also, would starting my own business help me get accepted?

GPA? You should probably retake the SAT and aim for over a 2100 (what are your math and reading scores?). You’ll get into UT with your class standing, but the business school is quite competitive, and business honors (if you’re considering that) will definitely need a higher GPA.

I have a 4.1 weighted GPA. I got a 720 on the math and a 650 on the reading. Do you think living abroad for a year in Japan would help my chances? I was not considering the business honors. Do you think I would have a good chance to just get into McCombs if I get over a 2100 on the SAT? What else do you think I can do to help my chances?

I think both starting a business and living in a foreign country would be great things to talk about in an essay, but they alone aren’t going to get you accepted. I can tell you from my experience (I went to a private high school in San Antonio) that a lot of really smart people do not get into the business school. My best friend got into Notre Dame but not McCombs, and there are several stories like that. It’s hard to say what score you would need on the SAT, but I would take it again and aim for the highest score you can get to help your chances. Make sure you have good recommendations, keep your grades up, and apply the earliest you can (I’m not sure if it is rolling admissions or not, but applying early won’t hurt). Work on critical reading on your SAT and take it again, and I think you’ll be competitive.

Have you considered Mays business school (A&M)?
