I just got accepted into McCombs and haven’t received any aid yet. I got into Kelley about a month ago and expect to get at least $13,000 per year in scholarship money. I have a passion for investing and have been interested in the Stock Market since the age of ten. I’m thinking of either going into a Sales & Trading or Asset Management route. I’m fine with working in any location around the country and was wondering which university would be better for me. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I still need to hear back from Michigan, UVA, Vanderbilt, UPenn, NYU, and Emory.
UT-Austin is a generally better regarded school overall, but both McCombs and Kelley are relatively comparable schools (McCombs does outrank Kelley in USNews). I too was accepted to Kelley but did not apply to UT-Austin. IU’s campus is exceptional and the program’s opportunities are very impressive. I recommend visiting (judging from your handle, you’re from the Boston area). Both are big state schools with a lot of pride - make sure that is something that you’re looking for, and there is a bit of culture shock going from MA to the south or midwest that you should keep in mind. If money is an issue, I would suggest Kelley ($13,000 off their already relatively modest OOS tuition is a great deal for a top tier business school). This could all change for you though, as you have gotten in to two business programs that are selective, so more acceptances from some of your remaining schools are likely.
@BostonPats - Have you received any new information on your search? My Son is comparing UT and IU also.
@Mythreesons I’m actually also from Ohio and am making the same exact decision.
I understand that IU has many opportunities towards the Chicago area and a possibility to get a New York gig. I’m worried about the possibilities of getting these opportunities if I don’t get into the Investment Management Workshop. Another consideration is the fact that IU isn’t within a major city compared to UT.
UT has opportunities for the O&G side of IB and tends to place throughout Texas, LA, and Southeast region. Didn’t get into their BHP which is a consideration and is across the country. The south is growing rapidly and UT is also overall a better school than IU. UT Austin seems to have more “prestige” and might be a better environment to balance education/fun. Worried about the fact that I might only get a back office job through UT while a workshop at UT could allow me to get a front office job.
I heard that you can get in-state after my first year so both colleges should cost about the same amount. Very difficult decision, still not sure which one I’m going to.

check this site out they put together the best lists for undergraduate b-schools. You can truly see how they build out the composite scores. Both schools are highly rated - will have similar large class experiences. So if a certain factor is what you are looking for this should help somewhat.
