UT Austin Official 2012 Thread

We don't have one of these yet?

I just got accepted this morning to College of Natural Sciences as a Computer Science major =) I'm still waiting on the results for Turing Scholar's and Dean Scholar's programs, though. Anyone know how soon honors results come out after regular acceptance?

Technically, I haven't decided whether or not I'm going yet, but the chances are looking greatly in UT Austin's favour. My other schools are top-tier, and with my stats I don't really have a chance of competing.

So. Let's hear a bit from some of my fellow future freshmen? =)

I too have been accepted to the Computer Science major. Also I got an email accepting me to the Turing program maybe two weeks after I finished my application there (I had already been accepted to UT at the time). I’m almost positive I’m going to go to UT.

i got accepted to UT college of engineering
woot woot
hello to fellow future UT students
i have a question
do you know if UT gives a lot of financial aid??
or do most people take out loans?
im a it stressed about that because im probably gonna live in a dorm my first year and it will get pretty expensive.

No UT does not give a lot of financial aid.

They are INCREDIBLY stingy. However, because the tuition is low as it is, many people do not need to take out loans.

82% of those who apply for financial aid do recieve some aid from the office, and 66% get their need fully met. However, UT’s definition of financial need and a reasonable person’s definition of finanical need are quite different.

Overall, 94% of total financial need was met. The average student received an aid award of $9000. This can include loans. The average value of a loan issued was $4700, and the average grad was $16000 in debt.

The sticker price is nowhere near a lot of UT’s peer institutions or higher level schools, but the financial aid also isn’t quite at the same level.

College of Natural Sciences =)

I haven’t been accepted yet (my audition isn’t until February) but maybe I will feel better about that if I post on this thread as a “hopeful”. Haha.

Hopefully, I will be acepted to the School of Music…

:)

Yay, got acceptance to Turing Scholars today =) Hope to see you in some of my classes next year, kingofnowhere!

My daughter received a letter from UT Austin offering to wave the OOS tuition (pay only in-state tuition) and also offering a stipend for books&expenses… I think it was $1000/year).
She is URM, NMSF, 4.1 GPA, 33ACT.
It is a very good offer…but she probably will not take it because she prefers smaller schools

I want to congratulate everyone on being accepted. I am a current UT student and I’m glad to welcome you to our family!!! Also, the amount of aid you receive depends on your EFC and family circumstances. If you don’t receive enough write a letter detailing why the amount won’t suit you. The FAFSA can’t tell them what hardships you’re going through so it’s best to write a letter if you have issues that affect your financial stability.

The offer your daughter received is the standard OOS offer for NMF and National Hispanic.

If you are National Achievement, the payout will be higher.

Hmm..loneranger what if you’re from in state and you were National Achievement COMMENDED? Would one get anything at all from that? I’m still pondering over how much financial aid I’ll receive from UT since I know they only have about 2000 black students out of a campus of about 50,000. They should be giving me SOME money I hope!!

I know it may not be a lot but heck, give me something!

From what I can tell so far, UT doesn’t care about National Achievement commended at all. In fact, of the seven schools my D applied to, only Texas A&M had a special place to check off NA commended on the application. But we did find a way to mention it on each application.

Wow, now I wish that I had mentioned it. I didn’t think it mattered too much so I never stated it.

I just got into UT School of Architecture out of state! Hey everyone!

Accepted to Honors Engineering for biomedical engineering.

business honors

plan 2 honors!!

While I am happy that all of you got in, everytime I hear that another person got accepted I become a little more uncertain, uneasy, and disturbed. Why does this whole college thing bring about so much agony?

For those that have been accepted recently, When did you apply and when did you get you’re decision?

applied like oct 30, accepted december 19 or so.
