<p>Hey guys, I'm a Texas resident and I've gotten accepted into both of these schools. I don't exactly love texas, so i think it would be nice to leave to california, which is my fave state. but at the same time there is the difference in tuition. however, b/c of my hs i am able to get 2 years of credit at UT and 1 year at Cal. I can graduate UT in two years and Berkeley in 3. Money is an issue, but it is not a definining issue. I can afford to go to both, but I do not want to waste money going to a more expensive school (Cal) if it is not worth it. I am majoring in neuroscience/cognitive science. Which one do you think would be a better undergrad experience? thanks</p>

<p>Well, PA seems to be a former Texas resident who came to Berkeley and experienced some major culture shock. I know another Texan who seems to enjoy Berkeley very much. Graduating in a short amount of time might limit you in some ways, but that's a different discussion. I know very little about UT. Some would say that because of the nature of the two schools, that they might provide farily similar experiences. I'd say go where you think you will be happier.</p>
<p>I'd strongly recommend Cal. If you've grown up in Texas, it would do you good to grow elsewhere, and Berkeley is an amazing place for that. I've lived in Houston and been to Austin, which is a neat place, but not as intereting and stimulating as Berkeley. It sounds like you're on that wavelength to start with, so let me confirm your hunch.</p>
<p>It's kind of funny, but Berkeley is a smaller school and much cozier environment that UT. It's got the best of both worlds in that sense, because it also has huge resources and is in the center of a very big metropolitan area.</p>
<p>I don't have a lot of specifics about the cog sci major.</p>
