UT Austin or Texas A&M for Petroleum Engineering

I just got accepted into both programs and I honestly can't decide which one I want to go to. There are a lot of factors that I'm looking at that I'm not going to mention here, but I will ask which school has a stronger alumni network and which will give me the best chance at getting a great job?

Additionally, I'm from NY and I was thinking A&M's conservative nature (as opposed to liberal UT) will be viewed more favorably by oil companies since I'm a yankee. Let me know what you guys think.

Both schools have very strong alumni networks. You’ll get a job going to either school. Employers won’t care where you’re from, as long as you don’t trash talk Texas!

Have you visited both campuses? They’re very different. I would recommend going to the school you believe is the best fit for you. Are you getting a better financial deal at one or the other? That should also be a consideration.

Good luck!

Both great schools… if it were me I’d go to UT. I think Austin is a great city to live in.

The Pet E departments at those schools are similar in many respects. You can’t go wrong with either one.

But the cities they are located in are much different. If you want a bigger city atmosphere and generally liberal environment, UT is the way to go. If you want more of a college town atmosphere and generally conservative, A&M would be better.
