I'm a high school senior looking to major in civil engineering starting in the fall of 2013. I have been accepted to both UTA and UT, however UT has yet to place me in a major. I have visited both campuses and I liked them both, but, of course, I fell in love with the massiveness and beauty of Austin. UT is my preference, but I fear that it will be much more expensive than UTA. Don't get me wrong, UTA is a great undergraduate school, but if I'm going to get practically a full ride from them but nothing from UT, that is the difference between $70-80 thousand in debt to basically none at all. My parents are pushing me towards UTA for that very reason and I feel like I've been backed into a corner because I like Austin but will more than likely be going to Arlington. Assuming that I get my first choice major of civil engineering at UT and the $5550 FAFSA said I "may be eligible for" should I go to the school I have been dreaming of going to since childhood while racking up tens of thousands of dollars in debt, or play it safe and stick with UTA to get an almost paid for education?
