I am a high school junior (girl) from California who is currently thinking about applying next fall to University of Texas at Austin, but I'm unsure of the chances for an out of state student to get into their Communications school... My boyfriend was recently admitted to McCombs (out of state) and has a 4.1 and is in the top 15% or so of his class, with 5 or 6 AP and honors classes under his belt and a 2280 on his SAT. I have a 3.68, in the top 30% of my class, with only 4 AP classes between my junior and senior year schedules. I'm taking the SAT in June, and I'm aiming for a 1900... is that too low? And my goal for my ACT score is 30, because that's what I got when I did a practice version.
** I also have a ton of extracurriculars, including being an editor of my school newspaper, Congressional Award recipient, avid singer/performer, etc.
Let me know if I should take UT off my list - it's in my "Reach" section right now, but I want to be really realistic... though it never hurts just to apply for kicks.

What are the chances for out of staters at UT? Does the top 10% rule apply for them, too?
