Over A&M for me!

hey, are you going to UT? that’s great.
for some reason, I thought you got CAPed.

But yea, I chose UT over Tulane and A&M.

Oh yeah I was then I said screw this and went for spring. Yeah that and my family kinda ran into a financial crisis so it’s not like I can even pay for CAP.

Spring entrance, that and I need to work hard on my job too.

Oh yeah also state year of entrance, and then which entrance.

UT Austin spring of 2009!

UT Fall 2008
College of Liberal Arts, Plan II Honors and Linguistics

Turned down acceptances from Notre Dame (honors program), Tulane (honors program and $24k a year), and Southwestern (honors and $20k a year).

I almost, but didn’t, apply to the following schools: Stanford, Penn, Northwestern, and McGill. I chose not to when I got in to Plan II, because I figured that the $20k a year of Plan II would be better value than $50k at a private. Earlier in the cycle, I also seriously looked at Harvard, Dartmouth, Rice, and Vanderbilt, but decided against them all, mainly on the financial aspect (I would get about $10k in need based, and scholarships are slim pickings at those schools). I didn’t want to get my hopes up for a scholarship and then not get one and not be able to pay, as Rice and Vandy give scholarships only to about 5%.

And I ended up getting offered two scholarships at UT which are offered to the top .02% of applicants.

But I’m incredibly happy to be coming to UT for free!

Nice thread!

Going to UT (with a 12K scholarship!) over…
NYU
Reed College
Hunter College

UT Engineering!
turned down Duke and Cornell

Rice, Berkeley, Cornell, UArizona, Michigan, Rochester, Tufts, a few state schools.

^
o.O
did they give you a scholarship? I hope you’re instate or are truly bleeding orange cause I don’t think I would turn down some of those schools over UT.

scholarship, but I’m really excited for UT and Plan II

is it easy to get in plan 2?

anhtimmy–the short answer is no. The long answer is that it depends on your strengths. Plan II rewards kids who are good all around, but even more importantly are strong writers (essays are 40% of the admission criteria)>

I’d say I’m both in-state and bleeding orange. But I narrowed my list to just UT when I realized that I wouldn’t be getting any more than $10k in need-based at most private schools, and that my family couldn’t afford $40k a year. $20 at UT is a bargain. And then I got the major scholarship, a full 7 months after I’d already commited to UT.

My son chose UT over U of Wisconsin-Madison and U of Toronto, also assorted NYS schools

UT over Texas Tech…

not much of a decision, eh? Haha, just kidding if any of y’all are Raiders.

(but really, come on.)

I was also in the middle of applying to University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Univeristy of North Texas. Once I got into UT I pulled my applications. Texas Tech was the only school I had already applied and gotten accepted to at the time.

UT over Duke, Rice, Brown, USC.

Hey dylalien, we both turned down Rice :-D!

I chose UT over Baylor. I’d made the decision in May of last year to make UT my number one choice due to cost and the fact that it had everything that I was looking for elsewhere in a college and I felt that I would be dumb to pass it up! Baylor was basically a backup in case I wasn’t in the top 10%. I thought about applying to Duke, UCLA, and Notre Dame but I decided to admit to myself that UT had captured my heart, so I ended up not applying.

university of washington and maryland, i got 20K a year cuz of national merit, and UT is the best

My daughter chose UT over Boston College, University of Miami, USC and Emory even though UT was her safety. She received scholarships from USC, U of M and UT. At least we will have her in state.

UChicago, Rice, Wash U, Northwestern. I figured spending in-state Texas tuition (I live in Nebraska but I got the National Merit Scholarship) to go to Dean’s/Plan II was a better choice than 50K for another school with the same level of education.

Damn. I wanted Chicago too!
