UT Austin Political Atmosphere?

I know Texas is a really conservative state, but that the campus and Austin itself is pretty liberal. Is this true? What is the campus like politically?

I know that Kerry won in Travis county..... by a decent margin too (about 60-40). UT is mostly liberal, but there are also a lot of conservative and apathetic people as well.

A recent poll of about 13,000 students self identifying broke down about like this. 3500 conservatives, 3500 liberals, 3500 moderates. 350 very conservative, 800 very liberal.

The Young Conservatives of Texas recently decided to have a skit in which they chased around and tried to capture people in t-shirts that read "illegal aliien". The roughly 20 of them were overwhelmed by several hundred conterdemonstrators. Those who are very liberal like my son have no complaints. One could hope that it would be like Oberlin, but there may be something to be learned from having all sides present in sufficient numbers.

In high school when people were picking college it was basically liberals=UT conservatives=A&M. I think that it is fair to say that Austin is considered the most liberal city in Texas...not that it would take much.

austin is one of the most liberal cities in the country actually....next to san fran, madison, and berkeley...

what's are liberal people versus conservative people like?

i don't understand your question.

Sorry grammer mistake. What's the difference between liberal and conservative people?

One has brains, the other has a heart :P

So if you're moderate, you have both????

Interesting . . . I haven't paid too much attention to politics so this stuff is new to me.

I think so lol

texdad, they actually never did that or plannned to, someone just sent out an email saying they were

austin is the most liberal city ever, its awesome, has so much identity. when you consider that college students are going to be liberal majority already, then throw in the fact that UT is one of the most liberal schools in the nation, it means its gonna be liberal. but, theres 50000 students, so definetly all kinds
