UT Austin Resume Questions

Under “Apply for freshman admission” it mentions that “a expanded resume that offers additional information about your achievments is not required but is strongly recommended.”

Do activities like costume designing, 2D game design, drawing, and playing guitar count as achievments, or are they only talking about awards, volunteer work, and or past employment?

Definitely make sure to put your awards, volunteer work, and past employment. But your hobbies/activities set you apart from others so put them under a different section!

If you are applying to Plan II, the expanded resume is very important. Show what you spend your time on, and all the activities are perfect, as is the time spent on each–by week, by month, or by semester, whichever is most relevant for you.

@EngPII to add, it is important for regular admission as well. UT strongly recommends an expanded resume - of any length you choose - because Apply Texas isn’t a very good tool to elaborate on your activities and accomplishments. Especially for hobbies or things that don’t fit neatly into the pre-defined categories, the expanded resume helps you define your own accomplishments on your own terms.

For Plan II, this is particularly important especially if you have a deep commitment to one or two activities that may be outside the norm - a male ballet dancer, a filmmaker who exhibits their work at festivals, starting your own business, etc.
