Hey guys so for various reasons, I was dismissed from UT due to poor grades last Spring. I had various psychological problems due to loneliness and Depression and it hurt my grades. After the first dismissal, Students are only allowed to return to the University after One Long Semester. This means that I wouldn’t be allowed to attend the University for Fall 2015 but could apply for readmission in Spring 2016. Over the course of this past semester, I worked on my mental health, While I went to Austin Community College and took courses. I haven’t finished all my finals yet but I am going to get above the mandated 2.5 GPA UT demands from students who are returning to school with transfer work. I was a Mccombs student(I know we aren’t all perfect lol) and so in order to inquire about spring applications, I called the Mccombs front desk around September to ask when Spring applications were due. The individual on the phone confidently told me that it would be around January. I then went on the UT readmissions page on my phone (http://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/readmission). The mobile site is different from the full website and so the deadline section that is on the right is actually at the bottom. What you first see on the Mobile website is the portion which says online application. I clicked on the portion that says open dates and I saw the portion that says “The Spring Application typically opens up in Late January”. Although it did seem kind of late, I thought that maybe the University was giving the students who took wintermester courses time to get their grades in so that they could turn in their transcripts. This also confirmed what the person working at the Mccombs front desk told me saying that applications for the spring semester would open up in January. After settling this matter, I told myself that I would solely focus on my ACC schoolwork so that I could get the GPA necessary to get back into UT. I just finished two of my finals at ACC yesterday and realized I was in the clear to start focusing on returning back to UT, “since the application would come out in January”. I went back to the readmission page on my phone and saw that the applytexas link under the online application portion. I clicked it and it led me to the applytexas page. I then got my laptop and started setting up my login info etc, in order to get ready for when the Spring applications opened up in January. I then decided to click on the UT undergraduate readmissions application to see previous applications. However to my astonishment, the Summer 2016 and Fall 2016 applications were already up, so it didn’t make sense why the Spring 2016 applications would only open up in January. After further investigation I came to realize that the deadline for turning in the application along with the application fee and transcripts was December 1. I realized this yesterday, which means that I am a week late. I still don’t understand how I could have turned in “everything” because I still haven’t even finished all my Finals at ACC, which means I wouldn’t have been able to turn in my transcript. Needless to say, I contacted my Mccombs academic advisor about the situation. She thought that the student at the front desk must have either thought I was talking about Spring 2017 admissions, or that the individuals who are accepted to return to UT in spring 2016 are only allowed to register in January. She agreed however that she didn’t understand how I could have even met the deadline because I am not done with courses at ACC, and thus could not have turned in my transcript. She told me that I would probably have to appeal for the approval of a late application in order to enroll for the Spring 2016 semester. I turned in my appeal today as well as my application(obviously not my transcript from ACC because none of my grades are up) and now have to wait out the appeal committee’s decision. I’m nervous because I hear that very few students win their appeals and I’m not sure whether my circumstance would be in that special category. Most of the matters regarding late application appeals that have been on college confidential is that the student either forgot to turn in a portion of their application before the deadline, the student didn’t confirm attendance before the deadline, or that the student just procrastinated or didn’t decide to apply to UT until after the deadline. I feel that my situation is in a different league however because I was given wrong information as well as the clear misunderstanding shown on the mobile site(that Spring applications opened up in Late January). Even with this assurance however, I am still not confident that I will win my appeal. Is there anybody who has insight on this matter that could help me out?
