Hey guys! I got into UT Austin for undeclared major in College of Natural Sciences (my second choice). My first choice was Computer Science but that did not happen. I had a 3.91 GPA so I’m guessing grades were not the reason I was rejected. I wanted to know from current or perspective students about their opinion… Should I accept the undeclared admission and attempt to internally transfer to UT next semester or year? The other option is to apply to Electrical Engineering as a backup if I get rejected from CS a second time. The last option would be to stay at my community college and apply again next semester or year. I really don’t want have a desire to stay at community college though - its lame
Let me know what yall think…
CS is a very tough major to get into. In general, you’ll have a better shot from within UT than from outside. I would suggest taking the admission offer now over another year in CC. There are a lot of CS and EE majors over in the UT Reddit forum who can give you insight between the two.
I would suggest just internal trannsfer.

Above are the links for CS internal transfer and engineering internal transfer. CS is extremely hard to internally transfer into at UT. Currently, our CS department is overpopulated with students and it is very hard for most of the CS majors to register for CS courses because they fill up faster than any other department and don’t have enough faculty to teach in the department. From the engineering transfer page, you can see that at least a 3.5 GPA was needed for electrical engineering in Fall 2013 but then in Fall 2014 they took a 3.4 followed by a 3.14 in 2015. If you are going to go to UT as undeclared, you really need a backup plan as to what you will do if you don’t get into those (which may include externally transferring to a different institution). It will not be easy.
