Hello! I will be attending one of the UT system schools next fall because I was admitted into the CAP program. I do not want to stay in COLA, which is why I want to transfer to CNS. CAP does not guarantee you admission to CNS which is why I was wondering if there was anyone out there who successfully transferred into CNS (especially the Public Health Degree). What courses did you take? What was your GPA? What volunteer activities did you do? I want to have a strong resume, but i am unsure of what to do in order to be a strong applicant. Thank you.
Hi! I went to UTSA this past year and was a pre-Biology major. I successfully transferred into UT-Austin with a 3.72. I suggest you to not accept the CAP program because CAP students have a limited course selection fitted for the College of Liberal Arts. This means fewer selection of math and science courses. CNS mainly looks at your grades in Math and Science courses (try to keep an A in all if possible) All of the science and math courses I took this year were Statistics, Calc. 1, Basic Chem, Gen Chem 1, and Bio 1. I got an A in all except for Biology 1. Make sure you have a Calculus credit (this is required by CNS) and have other sciences in your courseload. I was inducted into one of the honor societies on campus and was on the Dean’s list both semesters. Although I didn’t have a lot of ECs this semester, I had a whole bunch in HS. (you include your EC from past 5 years in resume) In high school, I was captain of varsity golf (State, Regional, District Champion), in NHS, in CATS, in Student Council, and Spirit Club. Again, i strongly suggest you don’t take the CAP deal; many of my friends who took the CAP deal trying to transfer into CNS were rejected even though they had a 3.8+. This was because they did not have a substantial amount of science and math courses. I hope this helps. Good luck!
Thanks so much for your reply! I decided to take the CAP and I am taking/will take Bio I, Bio II, Gen Chem I, Pre-Cal and Cal I. I also took some other filler courses that are part of UT’s general core requirements. Also, I am taking/will be taking courses (Fall 2018/Spring2019) that are required by the CNS Public Health major such as General Psychology, Political Science I and II (GOV 3 TX & US for UT), and English Composition I. I am aiming for the highest GPA I can possibly get but I think I will get a B in Bio I lol. I will let you know how it goes and hopefully, I will get into Public Health. If not, I at least have the CAP backup and I will still be able to be at UT no matter what happens.
@pickledpepperz1 forgot to mention you ^^^ haha
