HI!

I am currently majoring in Civil Engineering at a university not in Texas. I am beginning my transfer app for UT Austin and was wondering several things:

What is a good GPA to have if I am aiming to transfer as a civil major?

2.For general admission, everything is considered (gpa, essays, etc.), but what does the Cockrell School of Engineering actually look at to decide whether or not to admit me as a civil major?

If I am given general admission, but not admitted as a civil, would it be a good idea to choose another somewhat-related major while I work on improving my GPA or whatever they might not have liked in my app or essays and then apply again but as internal transfer? This way at least i am at UT.

I have gotten A's and B's for most of my classes, however this last semester I got a D for my statics class. It was my fault for the poor grade, but I am retaking it next semester. How big of an impact will this have on my chances of getting in?

Current GPA: 3.577
Total Credits:75
GPA credits: 45
Classification: Sophomore (I just finished up my third semester, will begin my fourth in the spring)

I apologize for the long question. Thanks for your help! :D
