What are my chances of getting into UT Austin with 47 credits and a gpa of 2.6
I have a solid Letter of recommendation
My high school gpa was 3.6
Im a veteran
And I volunteer a lot
Last thing if my essays happen to be stellar
Do I have a small chance at least?
To me it sounds impossible but I’m stubborn and I really want to go to this school
From what I’ve heard, the minimum GPA to get into any school at UT as a transfer would be at least 3.3. It seems very difficult, but you may very well make it.
Unfortunately, a “solid letter of recommendation” will not really help you that much. Letters of recommendation are usually used to determine between two close candidates. Your college GPA is usually the most important factor, and although your high school grades are impressive, they will not consider them. The only way your high school grades would help you is if you were in the top 10% of your class in high school and are requesting automatic transfer admission. If you want to have any chance at all, I would recommend that you try your best to write amazing essays. I’ve seen people with 3.0’s (which is considered low for UT) get accepted on account of their essays. Also, put your second choice major as College of Liberal Arts - Undeclared. I apologize if I’m coming off as harsh, I just don’t want to beat around the bush. If you happen to have any more questions, feel free to private message me. Good luck.
@longhorntobe What do you think about my chances?
I have applied as a transfer student to UT Austin for Spring 2016
College of Liberal Arts- Psychology
I am transferring from a community college in California with 34 units
I also am taking a 3 unit class at ACC this semester
I have a 3.9 GPA
I feel pretty good about my essays… but not much community service/ extra ciricular on my expanded resume… no letters of rec…I did write about how I have a learning disability (dyslexia) and what I have done to overcome it… thought that might stand out against the rest. Lets hope so!
Anyways, let me know what you think!!
@SarahAnne33 your GPA is certainly impressive and on par with UT’s standards. If you were in state, I would say that you’re 100% in. However, it may be a bit different for you since you’re out of state. Understand that they give priority to in-state applicants, but even with that I would say that you have an excellent chance of getting accepted. The fact that you’re taking a class at ACC will boost your application too. Good luck!
Thank you for your input!!! Can’t wait till decisions come out so I can finally relax @longhorntobe
@SarahAnne33 No problem. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to send me a private message.
