UT Austin, UNC, BU and Syracuse

I posted this a little earlier and I was hoping for maybe some more insight and opinions.

I'm interested in majoring in communications and I'm having trouble selecting a school. I'm leaning towards going into advertising (namely creating television commercials) but I'd like to learn about the other areas also. So far I've gotten into the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse with a $6000 a year scholarship (it's not much but it's something) and UNC.

I'm waiting to hear back from BU and Texas. I'm in-state for Texas and I'm aware that they have a very good communications school. Both my parents are UT alumni and my parents would like me to go there. They don't really know much about other schools aside from Texas, so they're unaware of the fact that my other options are pretty solid. I'm know that BU has a very highly regarded communications school and that Boston is a great area to make connections.

We don't qualify for financial aid and my parents have said they're willing to help me pay for whatever I choose.

My question is, if you were in my position, where would you be most inclined to go and why?

Thanks for your help, it's nice to get an outsiders perspective on the situation.

You haven't had a decision yet from BU and Texas? It's April 23. That's strange.

I don't know anything specifically about UNC, but it has had a good reputation for many years. Eons ago I applied to UNC for journalism. I think BU and Syracuse are the top two. I think everyone should go away for college. This is your big chance! See another part of the country.

It's more a matter of fit, urban/small city, social scene, campus, etc.

I'm a transfer student so that's why I'm hearing back so late. Thank you for the reply. Maybe going away would be good for me.

Def Syracuse, although especially BU but also UNC and UT are tops for communications. It's really just where you feel more comfertable.

Alright, I've been taking a close look at Syracuse, but the surrounding city and weather seems like a turn off. I'm not sure if the caliber of the school will offset the heavy cost.

Syracuse does have bad weather a lot of the time, but the journalism program at SU is a lot better than the one at BU. My sister was accepted into both, chose Syracuse and is very glad that she did! Newhouse's reputation and the opportunities for advancement that the school offered her are what helped make the decision an easy one. There is prob more to do in Boston, but for journalism Syracuse is what you want. It just depends what you are looking for in a school.
