UT Austin UW Madison Georgia Tech UCLA engineering chances!!!

Im oos for all these schools and im applying for electrical engineering.
3.75 uw gpa
4.35 w gpa
My school only offers APs to juniors and seniors and there are only a few for juniors. I didnt take any junior year which i regret but i still took honors math and bio junior year and also honors math chem spanish and computer science sophomore year. Senior year im taking AP calc BC AP statistics and AP physics M.
2000 SAT (M 740, CR 590, W 670 with an 8 on the essay)
Math II SAT 800
Taking ACT in the fall
ECs :
4 years of the school newspaper and I became sports editor (head of sports) the time we won best sports section in new england.
2 years football
2 years coaching a community basketball team (volunteer) with some friends and won coaches of the year one year
2 years peer tutoring in chemistry and math
4 years playing the trombone in the school jazz band
In my junior year I also moved twice and now have an hour commute to school which kind of sucks because it was a big change for me but im not sure if and where i should put this in the application. If someone could chance me that would be really great. Thank you so much!

I think your UC gpa will be too low, maybe, because they only weight AP for OOS students. Only soph and Jr year are used to calculate UC gpa. Your parents ok with OOS costs?

well they said lets see where you get into first but yeah they seem to be fine with it as long as its a worthwhile degree.

yeah i know UCLA will be a big reach for me but what about the others?

Chance me for the other schools too!!! Thanks!!!:)))

I think you have a great chance of getting into all schools except UCLA. That might be a reach. You have great leaderships EC’s. I still think you need to do something unique and something that will set you apart from all the other applicants. You should try finding an internship. This will show colleges that you are a student who is self-motivated and ambitious. I do think you should take the SATs again and improve your Critical Reading Score. Your lack of APs might hurt you so you should certainly do something else that will attract admissions officers. Other than that, everything looks good and you are all set! Good luck in applying. I’m sure you will be very successful in the future!! :))

UT Austin: high match
Wisconsin: match
Georgia Tech: high match/low reach
UCLA: reach

It seems many of your EC’s revolve around sports. Do you think you might play football for any of these schools? Being an athletic recruit will definitely increase your chances.

All of your courses are pretty solid; if you explain to the colleges that your school offers fewer AP’s than most high schools, that will help.

One last thing: your SAT’s are really good–except for the CR section. I know that since you want to be an engineering major, you will probably be better in the math section. But colleges like to see that you are well-rounded in all subjects. I would recommend submitting your ACT after you take it, as long as it is solid enough (think AT LEAST a 29 or higher to have a chance).

Hope this helped. Good luck!

im also thinking of applying USC but im not sure if i should because its pricy and im not sure how good they are at engineering/business. what do you think my chances are for USC and should i bother applying or not???

Alright. So being an Austinite, I can tell you that your SAT is a bit on the low end. Get job on your subject test tho! Really aim for a 34+ on that act. UT is a really selective college, the competition is really high even for us local kids. GPA is decent. What’s your rank? There’s an auto admit policy for top 7% of graduating class I believe. Check if that holds for oos as well, not sure. For UCLA, I think you have a decent shot at, just aim to do well on that ACT. Here’s my main issue though: you plan to pursue engineering, but there’s no proof of you wanting to? Like none of your ec show it. Remember that one of the essays for UT ask to show that you’re current academic pathways reflect your goal. Take the physics subject test, write a killer essay, and try to do something about those ec that reflects your passion for engineering. Good luck, and thanks for the chance!

HAHA man, we have lots of similar stats.

UCLA; high reach
Georgia Tech: mid reach
UT austin and UW: match

chance me at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1674595-chance-me-at-georgia-tech-cooper-union-virginia-tech-and-case-western.html?new=1</a></p>

u might wanna get some ec’s related to engineering. i dont have many either, and thats a weak point. thats probably ur main concern as of now. ur gpa isnt TOO bad and ur sat is average. thats why i gave u those predictions. also just a question on the side: how did u get a 590/670 on CR/W if u are sports editor. id assume ur really good at those. if its a lack of SAT prep, i reccomend u take it again, cuae i think u can score higher. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1674595-chance-me-at-georgia-tech-cooper-union-virginia-tech-and-case-western.html?new=1</a></p>
