I’ve gotten into both schools as a communication studies major. I’m a Texas resident so I have in-state tuition at UT, but I got a scholarship from Minnesota that covers the cost of out of state tuition, so it’d be essentially the same cost to go to either school. I’m not sure which school to choose, as I’ve visited both and am still confused. Which school is stronger in the liberal arts and which one do y’all think I’d be better off going to?
If you were offered the exact same job in Austin and Minneapolis, which would you choose? If you think you will want to live and work in Texas after you get your degree, go to UT – you’ll be able to connect with so many alumni throughout the state your whole life. If you think you will want to try out other parts of the country, then now is the chance to do that by choosing UMN.
As a prospective communications major, go to the university websites and compare the classes you would take for your major. Look at the school newspapers online and compare them, if you think you will want to write for the newpaper. See whether internships are required for the major, and if they will teach you all the skills you want.
Compare foreign language offerings and other minors and specialties. If you think you might double major, look at your options. Look at clubs and organizations.
You can’t go wrong with either choice because they are both excellent universities.
Whichever give you the most money. My Daughter graduated from UT Austin last year and got 27K a year job, and also now started paying down 60K loan. Good Luck…
I’d probably choose UT-Austin in any event, but if you want to live in TX after graduation then I’d surely go that route.
UT no question. Have you ever experienced a Minnesota winter? They are long and unbearable. After a few cold days you’ll being regretting that decision !
UT.
Both are good schools, but Austin >>>> Twin Cities
