how is the violin/music program at UT austin? is it more difficult that
UCLA?

I don’t understand your phraseology “more difficult”. Are you referring to competitiveness of the two audition pools, academic criteria, strength of program?

The UCLA program is a BA rather than a BM track (although a BA in music is available at UT Austin), and as such has less music/performance and more liberal arts in the degree requirements.

Compare the audition requirements (or suggested audition rep) at the two programs. Most audition based BA programs audition requirements are 'lighter" than what one might expect from a BM program.

Some past comments on UT Austin, and Brian Lewis in particular in the links below. Sandy Yamamota and Dan Ching, both of the Miro quartet round out the violin faculty at Butler.

yes, i meant audtion wise… here, there has been a change in faculty and the BA track here is just as intense as any BM track. i know alot of hardworking music majors here end up not getting much sleep.

There’s not a lot on the board here about UCLA. The poster mamenyu has good understanding of many of the west coast programs, and othermusicdad and tomdug both have d’s in viola performance programs, and they may have knowledge of UCLA strings. If you get no responses, it may be worth pm’ing them for insights. A couple of past UCLA threads (including your own)

From your prior posts, I’m unclear whether you are currently at UCLA (as a music major). Transfering as a music student can get complicated, so be sure you are aware of specific transfer procedures at UT or other programsof interest.

From an overall perspective, UT Austin has a better (read as known) reputation, at least east of the Rockies. Just my perspective. The infusion of money by Herb Albert may well change that down the road.
