The main reasons I need advice for is whether I should claim my credit and which specific math courses I should take. The recommended math courses for CS are MAT 1426, 2425 and 2326, or Calculus 1,2 and 3. I took Calculus AB AP this year, but I doubt I can wait until July to select my courses based on my scores. Should I just take 1426 and 2425 (Calculus 1 and 2)? From last year, I got credit for AP English Lang., so that should exempt me from taking the basic English class, ENG 1301. This year I took Calc. AB, English Lit., Government, Macroeconomics and Studio Art: Drawing. Additionally, I have around 20 credit hours from Dual Credit classes. I honestly have no idea if I should be claiming these credits, mostly from the fear that I won't have enough hours to complete excluding the hours gained from AP and Dual Credit. Any input would be appreciated, especially from those planning / in the process of doing CAP at a UT sister school.

I know at UT-Austin, before fall semester one has many times to add or drop a class. The system may not let you do this, but you could try to register for both classes in the sequences that you are interested in. For example you could register for Calculus 1 and 2, so long as there is not a time conflict. So when you get your AP scores back in July, just drop the course you won’t need. I hope that provides some strategic options , if you haven’t already figured that part out. Unfortunately, I couldn’t give advice on what math sequence to take. Good luck

The sister school you do your CAP year at won’t allow you to claim your AP hours there, so you’ll have to wait until you get to UT to do so. Also, keep in mind that you only have guaranteed admission to the School of Natural Sciences and School of Liberal Arts. You’ll have to apply to the other schools within the university (though I’m not sure where computer science falls). If you need to retake some classes to get your hours in, do it. You may come out with a better grade. Make sure you research your professors BEFORE you sign up for courses too. That’s really, really, REALLY important. Some professors are awful AND difficult; not just one or the other.

I just completed my CAP year at UTSA, so I’ve already gone through all of this. Trust me on this one: do your research on your professors, and go to every class. EVERY CLASS.

You CAN claim your AP credit at the sister school, and it is probably a good idea to do so because UT may have higher standards for getting the credit than the sister schools may have. However, your AP credit will NOT count towards your 30 hrs at the sister school, so you would still have to take at least 15 hrs a semester no matter how much AP credit you have.
