So I recently got offered the CAP program for UT Austin, but that requires me having to go to a satellite school of UT (all besides UTD), and I’ve heard great things about both UT San Antonio and UT Fort Worth. Which of those would be best concerning education and college experience?
Thanks!!!
I have never heard of UT Fort Worth - you may be thinking of UT Arlington which is a good school. What are you trying to major in? I know when you transfer back to UT, COLA is the only guaranteed major. Also, there is a good percentage of CAP students who end up never transferring back to UT, so pick a school that could work for you for 4 years, just in case. I would research both schools and possible others - UT Permian Basin, UTEP, UT Tyler - for what you want to major in and pick the school with the best program.
UT San Antonio is by the most requested school by CAP students. The problem is those slots fill up within a hour of being available. UT Arlington would be number two on the CAP list and it is much more easier to secure a spot. UT Tyler would likely come in third place overall.
Thanks guys, I meant to write UT Arlington, not Forth Worth :). This year, I am taking 5 APs and took 2 last year and passed, but can I use those for CAP? Also, what are the differences between UT Arlington and UT San Antonio?
Thanks again everyone!
I don’t know if they accept AP scores for CAP. I’m thinking they do not but I would ask that question directly to them. I have read that is one of the downsides to CAP if you do have alot of AP hours. You might want to post this question on the UT Austin site (UT Austin and college confidential). There is alot of discussion about CAP going on.
UT Arlington is the second largest school in the UT system after UT Austin, close to 33,000 undergrads. The programs it is known for are nursing, engineering and business. I’m sure they have other good depts as well. I do not believe they have any large sports programs. It is in an urban setting.
UTSA is large - 24,000+ undergraduate students. The one program I know they are known for is cryptosecurity. They do have a football team.
I don’t know what major you want. I would look at both of these schools for the better program in your major. As @Grainraiser states above CAP positions at UTSA fill very fast because UTSA limits them. If you want UTSA, be prepared to log in exactly when it opens.
@Sarahsaur I advise against CAP. If you want to attend UT Austin, you should enroll in Austin Community College in Austin and transfer from there. CAP is just not a good idea if you really look at how much you jeopardizing and giving up for not even a guarantee chance to get in, especially if you want to major in something outside of liberal arts. Many of the professors at ACC teach at UT Austin and ACC has a dual enrollment program with UT.
If you’re smart and passionate about being a Longhorn, go to ACC and establish your life in Austin … don’t waste time at a college and city you’re not interested in remaining in for over a year.
@sarahsaurr : CAP is only worth it if you want to major in liberal arts. Is that what you’re interested in?
Even if you manage to get accepted into UT Austin, you would need a GPA of almost 4.0 to be considered for an employable major, like business. Even then, you’re looking at a 10% acceptance rate. It’s really sad when it’s the prestigious university sabotaging your future!
On the other hand, go to UTSA. It’s not a small school either, there’s 30,000 students. It’s actually a fun lively school with a lot of school spirit! And, it’s not cutthroat competitive like UT is either. Oh yeah, did I mention that it’s 5 minutes from Six Flags?
