Hi, I found out today that I was offered the CAP program. I was excited at first because I have the chance to got to UT Austin after a year, but after reading some article, they said that CAP is offered to all the rejects. I know I wasn’t accepted to UT Austin, but being offered a program I thought it would be selective. So if anyone can answer my question please, is the CAP program just for the rest of the rejects?
No.
CAP is not offered to all who get denied.
I was wondering the same thing. Could anyone shed some light on the CAP program, I saw the stuff on UT’s websites but it really wasn’t that helpful. The only thing I saw wasn’t appealing. I would only be guaranteed Liberal Arts.
CAP is the most popular alternative to being rejected but it’s not offered for everyone. I think it’s something like 40%. Yes the 3.2 only guarantees you UGS or liberal arts but if you get higher grades you get into better schools. I asked the admissions office how to get in to McCombs on CAP and they told me a 3.8-4.0 GPA is most desirable.
I am also hoping that those who’ve been through CAP to share their experience. Was it fun?
I’m doing Cap right now at UTA. Right now I more than likely will be attending UT Austin next semester. I really hope I get into McCombs. I made a 4.0 last semester and I plan to maintain it this semester. I’d recommend going to a CAP school that goes by A,B,C,and D. What I mean by that is, A=4.0, B=3.0, etc… I found it easier because my lowest grade was a 94 and I think that is an A or A-, which would have been at 3.7 i believe instead of a 4.0. CAP is extremely easy if you try in your classes. I personally found my classes at UTA easier than my high school AP classes. Then again… I studied a LOT!!! but in all honesty, CAP is easy and definitely worth it!!! Also, UTA suckssssssssss!! I can’t wait till this semester is over and I’m outta heree!! \m/
It’s offered to all Texas residents who aren’t offered admission and are reasonably prepared for college.
Straight from UT’s website: “CAP is offered to Texas residents who meet the University’s high school preparation requirements, complete a freshman application for admission to UT Austin by the required deadline, and meet the enrollment requirements of at least one of the UT System universities participating in CAP for the designated academic year.”
So, basically, yeah, it’s offered to most who aren’t granted admission, but that doesn’t discount the legitimacy of the program. Definitely consider it.
Can anyone post their stats who were offered UTCAP? Asking for a friend whose D is waiting on admissions to UT Austin.
I have a friend offered CAP a couple of years ago who was top quarter with a 1300 CR-M who applied to Moody. Three year commitment to a sport and worked during high school. One or two leadership roles in high school. Not a bunch of AP credit but a few dual courses. He took the offer and was successful and is now in Austin in Moody. He is on track to graduate on time. He was not a studier in high school and he is not super studious in college but he was that CAP year. He also got involved at his CAP campus and enjoyed it.

So I was recently offered to do the CAP program and be able to get a guaranteed admission to UT Austin for my sophomore year. I’m just going to say that UT Austin is my dream school and I will do just about anything to get me there. I have three options. I can do the CAP program, I can go to ACC and transfer, or I can go to A&M (I was already accepted). I don’t like A&M, I visited and it just wasn’t for me, so I don’t think that is much a choice. CAP would be perfect, but I took IB classes and will (hopefully) have tons of college credit when I graduate from high school this year. It says that available CAP courses may be very limited to students who have college credit, so I’m kind of thinking that it would sort of be a waste of time and money. Does anyone know if the college credit gets accepted by UT Austin when I get transferred sophomore year? My other option would be to go to ACC, this is cheap and very easy to get my GPA up. I could get at least sophomore standing in a year and transfer as a junior. I just feel like ACC isn’t a true college experience and I’m not guaranteed admission to UT Austin if I transfer from ACC. I would ev crushed if that happened. What would you guys do? I need suggestions quick!!!
Was the program called PACE (where you attend ACC classes and 1 UT class and can stay in the dorms)?
I answered in your other thread. I would personally choose another four year state school if you are walking in with a bunch of IB credit unless you are willing to retake some of the classes which you have credit for which is one strategy for CAP. I would go to A&M but if you hate it that much, I’d go to Tech, UNT, or UTD.
So my roommate was in the same situation, All he did was tell UT that he already had these classes completed so they allowed him to take advance classes like O-chem and Cal 3. I would personally just go to ACC. (especially if you live in Austin) were you offered pace?
I’m in the exact same situation as you! UTSA is full now however, and I am considering UTA. Have you made any decisions yet?
Could you tell me anything about UTA? UTSA is no longer accepting CAP and I can go to UTA, A&M or ACC, but it has been a lifelong dream of mine to go to UT.
UTA is a great school. It has a great engineering program and a respected business program. They have built new dorms in the last five years or so and there is a lot to do in Arlington. Rangers and Cowboys both play there as well as Six Flags, etc. Lots of restaurants but only a few within walking distance so not as much of a college town feel. They have a Greek system. Not sure what else to tell you.
I guess I am baffled that you would pass up A&M to go to a secondary campus or a community college to take a chance on transferring into UT and MAYBE get the major you want. A&M is a nationally recognized school in a great college town with just about every major you could think of and the full college experience. To each his own though.
My advice is always to have a back up plan- what if in a year, you don’t get into UT again? Then what? Just have a plan.
I go to UTA for Cap right now. The school sucks. However, it’ll be worth it if you make it to Austin. I hated this year, but hey… I’ll be at UT next semester. Uta is extremely easy. The hardest class is probably Cal. They have a good engineering school and nursing school. The business school is below average. The café food is horrible. The service is god awful. The gym is extremely small compared to the population. A lot of the students that go here smell horrible. Uta might suck, but UT is worth it. Good luck
@SammySosa I’m also a CAP student at UTA and I’d agree with most of your claims except for the gym being extremely small. I go to the MAC just about every day and I have nothing but positive things to say about.
Personally I’ve loved my year at UTA. I have met many great people, some of whom are CAP students and some who are not. However having said that I am still very excited to be in Austin
Not necessarily “better schools”, but the school in which has your major.
