UT Class of 2017

How do you know if you are accepted into your major?

My D’s status page says:

Congratulations, austinpop’s D! You’ve been admitted to The University of Texas at Austin.

As you wait to hear about your application to the Plan II Honors Program, and to any other honors program(s) to which you may have applied, you’ve been accepted for admission into the Class of 2017 to the Unspecified Business (freshman) major in the Red McCombs School of Business beginning in Fall 2013.

That’s how you know.

Submitted on 09/30, last letter of rec got in 10/26, holistic review, accepted into gov’t.

^purple, are you a transfer or a high school senior? auto-admit or non auto-admit?

Applied Early, Holistic Review, Got into BHP today

Mavmunk, if you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats and were you in-state or out-of-state?

I am a HS senior in-state, non-auto admit because school does not rank. Stats would have placed me in top 10% (or 8% or whatever, and did, before I transferred to my new school).

@ haleyssmile

No problem!

I applied from in-state. My school does not rank, thus holistic review.

GPA: errrr. I think around 94-ish out of 99 (weird system, I know. and I’m sorry I don’t know the exact number)

SAT:
May 2012: CR: 800 M: 760 W: 800
Total: 2360

National Merit Semifinalist

SAT Subject Tests: Chinese with Listening, Math II, Chemistry (all 800), Spanish Reading, Biology (both 760)

AP Credits so far:
Chemistry 5
Spanish Language 5
English Language 5
Calc BC 4 (AB subscore 5)
Physics C: Mechanics 5
US History 4

The same with my student. Application completed on 11/04/12 and acceptance letter by email on 11/05/12 College of Natural Science :-)

Auto admitted
Waiting on petroleum engineering
Was lazy and didn’t finish the application till 11/12 or so.
-_______________-
Does anybody have the average stats for a petro engineer?

Also you comp sci guys don’t worry, it’s in the College of Natural Science, you’re basically guaranteed into it if you get into the university.

@ mavmunk

Looks like we’re classmates! Got accepted to the BHP today!! I am beyond excited!

Out of State (Vermont)

Rank: My school ranks but is weird in the sense that they don’t tell the students what
their rank is, they only send our ranks off to colleges. So I can not say for sure, although I would assume somewhere in the top 5 or 6%.

SATs: 2160 (680CR, 750M, 730W)

Are you getting an out of state tuition waiver, Haley?

congrats haleyssmile!!!

oops, I definitely thought that this thread was for UT results and not for the UT '17 class…

I’m still awaiting results from other universities that I applied to on the common app and ucas, but if I do end up going to BHP, then YAY!!! we’ll be classmates!

@ mavmunk - thank you!! hopefully we’ll end up classmates! are you going to the Discover BHP weekend in March?

@ asianandproud - I am not.

@haleyssmile

I haven’t heard about that event. I was invited to one in my area that is being held on Dec. 8th. :)

If you aren’t at least getting an out of state tuition waiver, then why are you coming to UT? You seem like you would be the one to get into Dartmouth or Brown or the like. It’d be the same price, and if you qualify for need based financial aid they’ll be much less stingy than UT will be.

Haha, also, coming from Vermont, Texas might be major culture shock for you.

@ asianandproud

After visiting UT, I absolutely fell in love with it. I couldn’t see myself going anywhere else. It has everything I’m looking for: an incredible business program, amazing weather, a large student body, and the best overall college experience (between sports, the music scene, greek life, ect.). The Ivies, to me, all seemed to be missing something that I wanted while UT had it all.

I wouldn’t qualify for need-based aid so since the Ivies and UT are relatively the same price, that’s not really a deciding factor for me.

And on top of all that, I love traveling and experiencing new things so I’m not too worried about the ‘culture shock’. I lived in New York for about 12 years and I have had the privilege of traveling to places where the culture is way more different from Vermont’s than Austin’s is.

In general, UT just seemed like the perfect fit for me and I am beyond excited to be a part of the BHP!

Wheee!

That’s a heartwarming comment. I’m glad you are coming to UT!
