This is really good to know, @GTAustin . She would prefer a CogSci program with more concentration on linguistics but is willing to go neural and human interaction for undergrad if she attends UTD. She has a number of applications in to other schools so we’ll see what shakes out in the end. This has always been her fall back school but the $$ sure is nice.
Any chance of getting admission? In application: 1st choice major Computer Science, 2nd Choice major Computer Engineering, he wants to do Computer Science:
Details:
- 3.75 GPA
- Rank in 2nd Quarter (333/750)
- SAT: 1230 (math: 700)
- Lot of APs including Computer Science AP.
- Computer Science Club 2 years (1 hour a week), Volunteer 2 years (2 hours a week), Competed in UIL Computer science but didn’t win any.
- No work experience.
- Applied in late Oct, didn’t hear any acceptance or rejection notice yet.
Thanks,
VK.
I would think he would get accepted. His SAT is on the low side but with the math score and being in the top 50%, I think he will be accepted. I also think you should hear soon.
Accepted a while ago, just found this thread lol
SAT: 1550
GPA: 4.7
Almost all APs for 2 years
National Merit Semi-Finalist (hopefully finalist fingers crossed)
Got the AES full tuition and $3000 per semester. Hopefully I get National Merit Finalist bc it will be a little bit more than what I have rn
@microguy123, congrats! The NM scholarship is great so I’m hoping you make it as well.
Congrats @microguy123 ! Would love to hear about your NM scholarship too! Good luck!
@GTAustin @Embeechristmas Thanks!
The National Merit Scholarship for UT Dallas is full tuition plus: “$4,000 per semester cash stipend to defray the costs of books, supplies, and other expenses, a $1,500 per semester housing stipend for students living on campus”.
I’m really banking on this, especially bc I’m out of state. But its really nice just knowing I’ve already been accepted somewhere and can afford college.
@microguy123, UTD’s scholarship is close to a full ride. It doesn’t cover transportation costs but most everything else. A total full ride is at TTU in Lubbock. They do commit to everything.
@GTAustin Alright thanks. I think UT Dallas’ computer science is better than TTU and I can afford the transportation costs, esp if I drive there.
My son got accepted today!

So far just the status changed to Admit on Galaxy couple of hours back, when I clicked view finance aid link it displayed “There is no finacial information found”, may be it takes some time to know he was awarded any AES scholorship and/or any other financial aid?
Thanks!
VK13
@VK13, congratulations on your son getting accepted! Unfortunately with a 1230 SAT, it is unlikely he will be receiving an AES scholarship. Hopefully, you have done the FAFSA so they can possibly give you some financial aid based on need. I really don’t know what the timing on that is anymore. Previously, you could only do the FAFSA starting in January and you heard back in April. Now, they allow you to do it starting in October, so I assume you would hear back earlier.
Thank you @GTAustin! This is helpful.
@VK13 My daughter (ACT 28, SAT 1270) did not get any AES. There was a Stafford loan offer.
@BlueBayouAZ, sorry about that. But the more I see AES awards, the more I am wondering if SAT score is a major decider because people in my school who are way below in rank and GPA seem to have better AES awards than the ones with high GPA and lower SAT…
@Embeechristmas I think you have something there, each school figures rank differently, in our school DE (college class) don’t count for rank at all in other schools they are waited grades. Some schools are VERY competitive and it’s very hard to make A’s. So test scores are the one thing that is ‘standard’ between schools. I also know they look at the ‘rigor’ of your classes and want to see AP and/or DE classes.
I got in! I am kinda disappointed since I wanted to do McDermott and this year they raised the ACT minimum to 34; I had a 33. I got the AES.
Congats @snatchedsister - can I ask which level AES and the rest of your stats?
Does anyone know how important applying for housing early is? I’m not set on UT Dallas yet and don’t want to pay a deposit for a school I might not be going to.
I think you are fine right now without applying for housing. I think you could wait another month or 2 especially being a NMF. If you wanted an LLC besides Honors, you might want to apply earlier.
@GTAustin Would the Computer Science or Honors LLC be better?
