Hi, I’m an international freshman for the fall 2018 enrollment at UTD. I’m in Mechanical Engineering, just for you to know. I’m now standing before the 2 options of housing: LLC and Honors dorm. Each has its own pros and cons, which makes me really confused. Can anyone, who had some experiences or acquaintances who had exp with these two, help me out?
My priority is a good environment for academic (doing researches, projects, etc.) and professional (networking, career prospects, etc.) opportunities.
Does living in LLC increase chances to get to do researches?
And is any of these two unavailable for non-freshman students?
And can we shift from one to another in years after freshman?
So many factors to consider… I would be very grateful if anyone can advise me. Thanks in advance!
They only have these options available for freshman. For sophomores, you move to an University apt or off campus with roommates of your choice. Both are good academic environments - the students are focused on academics. If you live in an LLC, you will be surrounded by students with a similar major. In Honors, the students have varied majors and interests. My DD chose Honors because she wanted a broader experience. For research, you talk to professor and express an interest. For networking and career prospects, doing well in school, knowing your professors, joining clubs and being active in them, all help with networking. The question really is do you want to live with students with similar interests 24/7 or do you want to be involved with students from all majors. Both are good choices.
