I don’t know but if you don’t ask you won’t get it.
Ask! my son was National Merit and unable to attend scholars’s day and they gave him a fee waiver. Do not pay the application fee because they can not refund it if you pay but they can waive it if you don’t pay.
Good to know! Thank you
@3scoutsmom, @GTAustin , or anyone else who knows: Is there a separate Honors College application to be filled out? We can’t find it on the Galaxy Portal. My daughter can’t remember if she “applied for Honors” with the initial application back in early September. She has the AES Scholarship listed in the Portal.
No application required but send the email sooner rather than later, they accept a limited number of students into the honors program and I know some students that weren’t accepted because they were full because they waited too long to ask to be admitted.
@3scoutsmom , should she wait until the “official” letter arrives that she is a NMF? Right now, she is just a Semi Finalist but she has submitted all her stuff.
I’d wait until it’s official, the ones I know that didn’t get admitted waited until summer to ask to be admitted. They didn’t realize that the perk of early registration was tied to the honors college and not jusy to being NM.
@3scoutsmom , thanks for your input! We will wait till it is official…
Boy that has changed just in the last 2 years. Previously, you did need to submit a separate application for Honors. Y
We went to the Scholar’s Day yesterday and were told that you do apply to CV separately after you get admitted to UTD (the deadline is February 15). NM Scholars are eligible for inclusion into CV, but my daughter was advised to apply as soon as she gets admitted without waiting for the NMF status.
Son only sent an email last year to ask to be included and didn’t have an issue if they have changed things they really need to update their web page. https://honors.utdallas.edu/nmsp/faq last question
@Alikath did they happen to say anything about the changes to AES at Scholar’s day?
@3scoutsmom They only mentioned AES, but did not give any details at all, even at the Financial Aid session.
Does UT Dallas have a “Scholars or Honors Dorm” for National Merits, etc?
If they apply for CV honors, which they will be automatically accepted, they will be housed in the Honors Dorm. Theri roommates will also be NMF. In this dorm will be CV Honors, McDermotts, Terry Scholars and NMF. If they don’t chose to apply and live in honors or want to live in another LLC, they will just have regular roommates.
What if you’re NMSF and apply to UT Dallas but don’t apply to honors and then somehow don’t advance to finalist? I Since you don’t know for sure when you apply to UTD that you’ll be NMF, should you go through the extra trouble to apply for CV honors?
@ebh87 YES!!! It’s no real extra effort for DS he just sent an email

@3scoutsmom but what if they don’t advance to finalist as expected for some reason and never applied to CV with their original UTD application because they assumed they would be NMF. Would it be too late to apply for CV after finding out you are not NMF?
Hope I’m making sense.
You should have a good idea if they’ll be NMF by September you’ll get the official word in early February. You have until 2/15 to apply to the honor program if you are not National Merit. The application is not too much work, maybe have an essay ready 'just in case?
I don’t think the 2/15 CV application date is strictly enforced for NMF. I think you can just send them an email and they’ll add NMF students (even after that date).
