what do you mean by “full ride”?

covering the cost of tuition for 4 years? or covering the cost of tuition/fees/room and board for 4 years?

also, what are your stats?

@KB

do full rides normally just cover tuition?

@kb: usually “full ride” is used to refer to all expenses: tuition/R&B/books/fees/expenses
otherwise you would use the term “full tuition” scholarship.

@nee92 : Im in a very similar situation (kind of) my college picks were UTD (CAP) TAMU and UC Berkeley (which would be like ur UT because its good but too expensive)

i just got a full ride to TAMU and am waiting on UTD…

may I ask what your sat and gpa were for u to get a full ride to UTD? theyr’s taking forever to respond to me…

personally, i would really just rather go to UT… (but I got rejected… congrats to you tho!) just because of the environment and austin is a nice city…

isn’t UT and TAMu opposites… i really don’t like the whole tradition mentality that TAMU has… should i just be going to UTD for a year and then transfer?

for you…I think u should really see if TAMU’s environment is likable for you… because ive heard ist wayyy different than UT and its 4 years of ur life!

@dae you should really consider TAMU, i suggest you visit. Alot of people pick TAMU over UT for various reasons and vice versa.

and also if you got a Full Ride at TAMU i would think you could get it at UTD

edit: if you didnt like TAMU when you visited then i dont see why you should go

@dae0528: I’m surprised you didnt get admission to UTD if you got a full ride at TAMU… my unweighted GPA was a 3.73 and SAT composite was 2070. I’m still waiting for any scholarships from TAMU. are you from texas? What was your SAT/ACT and GPA for you to get a full ride to TAMU?

aww im going crazy! todays the last day to decide…

utd still didnt give me my finAID, but said at least 18,000 out of 23,000 vs. full ride to tamu.

of course i definitely just wanna go to ut, but every thousand is a BIG DEAL to me.

is it hard to transfer to ut from tamu? with decent gpa… like 3.5 +

would utd o tamu be harder academicaly?

I’m currently at A&M looking to transfer to UT. I currently have a 4.0 GPA (which won’t hold after this semester). A&M is harder academically than UTD. I would definitely take the full ride at A&M over UTD, especially because it’s more prestigious. If you don’t like it after a year, then transfer somewhere else like to UT.

is it hard to transfer after one year? i heard 95% of transfers are from other ut system schools.

what gpa would i need to get into ut lib arts?

my main goal is really ut, but the full ride at a&m is so tempting.

but i really dont like the whole tradition and military aspect. will i be able to brush that aside and still enjoy a&m?

yea most of the kids that transfer to UT, were participants in the Coordinated Admission Program. You basically need a 3.5 or higher to get in UT as a transfer(for COLA, 3.7-8 to get into Business/Engineering). Im sure you will still be able to enjoy A&M, but Xcellerator can go more into detail. He has almost survived a whole year in College Station, im sure its not that bad.

I would take the full ride at TAMU. This will save your parents lots of money. As Xcellerator said TAMU is more prestigious than UTD and you can always transfer if you don’t like it. It won’t be hard to transfer to UT libs arts if your GPA is at least 3.5.

If you set your mind to it, it isn’t hard at all. It’s because those 95% transfer are from CAP; there are still a lot of transfers from other schools as well.

A 3.5 GPA or higher is preferable, which shouldn’t be that hard unless you’re doing engineering or a science major.

Definitely take the full ride. Saves you and your parents lots of money like plin stated.

You can get away from the military aspect, but you will see core people everywhere (just ignore them). But, tradition is huge here at A&M. It’s basically what A&M is. Basically the first couple weeks, everyone will say “howdy” to you but after that, they’ll stop because they’ll get tired. At sporting events such as football, you will definitely have go with their traditions and do yells or else you will get yelled/picked on. There lots of other traditions like Silver Taps and Muster, but I didn’t go to those. They’re not that bad, though…But yes, I basically brushed aside the tradition/military stuff and have somewhat enjoyed my stay here at A&M. There is nothing to do here if you don’t have a car (I didn’t bring one) besides Northgate and the sporting events. Overall, it wasn’t that bad; it was very tolerable. I am the definition of a 2% er, which is more like .0002% lol.
