UT Direct Recommendations....?

Hello y’all! Hope you guys are doing great!

How do I get my teachers to submit recommendations through UT Direct? I looked around on the website and figured out that I could scan their recommendations as pdfs or whatnot and upload them through UT Austin’s Document Upload System. However, if I want them to directly send the recommendations to UT Austin, how will I do so?

Thanks in advance!

On the Document Upload System, you will be able to input the email address for each of your teachers / recommenders. They will then get an email from the UT system inviting them to upload their recommendation directly. There is also a snail mail address you can give to the teachers if they prefer snail mail to upload. Upload directly from the teachers is the preferred method however, and you will be able to see online whether or not UT has received the uploaded letters from the teachers.

So the email I send to them through the Document Upload System will automatically notify them and allow them to upload/scan their recommendations? Thanks @EngPII

Yes, @JSnoopy45, that is correct. Of all of the university online application / info systems, I thought UT’s was by far the slickest of the bunch. The document upload and notification of what has been received and what is needed is quite user friendly and intuitive. Common App could learn from the UT web tools.

Nice, @EngPII! I have another question: who do I ask for recs? I am applying to business program at UT…is there a specific type of person I should be asking recs from? Thanks again in advance!

For sure, at least the teacher that knows you the best and can provide more personal insight as to you as a student. For the second one, it is mostly optional–if you feel there is another teacher has a different perspective than the first teacher and ADDS new insight to your application by all means you can submit it. I would approach the teacher of your choice with a summary of what you would like him to address in talking about you. You can even provide him or her with words or phrases, maybe strengths, to guide the teacher. Spending some time with the teacher, he or she can also take notes to help. Teachers have a lot of recs this time of year.

This is where having a College Resume is helpful. Give your resume to perspective teachers that you ask to write Recs for you. It will help them better know things about you and emphasize the brand you’re trying to show your colleges in your applications.

@TXDad56, that’s great advice on the resume.
