UT Electrical/Computer Engineering Stats

Hi all,

So I know that there are around 1500 seats given for ECE seats at UT, does anyone know what the admission rate is for ECE undergraduate (how many applied vs 1500 who got in)?

On the ASEE website, under online profiles, UT reported that for engineering in total had 14259 applicants, offered acceptance to 3547 and 1632 enrolled in 2017. It does not break it down by discipline. It also states that 97% of the students were in the top 25% of their class. Unfortunately, UT did not report the SAT/ACT scores.

I’m confused, on this site it says that total undergrad enrollment in engineering is 6022.

Also if they don’t break engineering stats down by discipline, I’m guessing that the stats for CS are unknown as well (all though it might not even be worth it to apply to CS lol).

What’s confusing?

4yrs*1600=6400 is close to 6000.

People drop out.

The CS department has ~1800 undergrads.

But the 6000 is the combined size for one class (6000 for one year). I know because I asked someone at UT if 1500 for ECE (from the site) was accepted over 4 years (whole undergrad size) or only 1 year (one class size). So if there are ~6000 total seats in one year it doesn’t make sense that 1/4 of that number took the seats as well. Either that or the info from the site I gave you talks about the whole undergrad size, the UT person I talked to was wrong, and your data makes perfect sense.

For reference, would you mind putting the link for your information too? Thanks.

UT CS “facts” - https://cns.utexas.edu/about/facts/computer-science

~1800 ugrads.

Wrong CS “Facts”:

  1. “only Top 10 program in a 1000 miles…”
UIUC & Gatech are 2 higher ranked top 10 cs programs within 1000 miles of Austin.

  2. “largest Top 10 program in country”
Gatech has much larger program (2800 ugrad) and 2.5 times as many cs faculty.

Engineering - https://www.asee.org/documents/papers-and-publications/publications/college-profiles/2017-Engineering-by-Numbers-Engineering-Statistics.pdf

The Computer Science department is in the College of Natural Sciences, not the School of Engineering.

^^^ He asked for references for both CS and ECE.

ECE numbers are in the PDF. CS numbers from the UT CS site and are in the PDF as well (based on degrees granted).
