UT ENGINEER RECOMMENDED FRESHMAN SCHEDULE

Hello fellow CCers!!
My UT orientation is this Monday. A lot of my friends who have already attended their orientations told me that they created ‘mock schedules.’ In other words, they were prepared with what classes and what professors to “pick.”

Well, I have no clue what classes I even have to take at all as a Mechanical Engineer. I have a bit of AP Credit as well, so I don’t know how this would factor in to my schedule. Plus, I’m also thinking of joining a FIG, either Women in Engineering Program or Equal Opportunity for Engineers. And I’m not sure how a FIG would affect the creation of my schedule.

QUESTION: 1) So, my question is, to incoming or current or former Mechanical (or other) Engineers: What was your exact schedule your Freshman year, both semesters? With what professors?
2) What schedule do you recommend for incoming Engineers (specific classes) and what professors do you recommend for those classes (or for any required Freshman classes).?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

P.S: passed AP exams for psychology, government, english (both), calculus AB, spanish, us history, world history, human geography, biology, macroeconomics

My advice is to make a mock schedule AFTER your appointment with an advisor on Tuesday. If you make one now, you’re going to have to change it entirely. They’ll tell you what they suggest you take, then you research the best professors. Good luck!!

Go out to your degree program on ut website and you can download the list of recommended courses and research professors now. Your advisor will help you with FIG choice and schedule. Myedu.com is a great site for knowing if a schedule works- - you can map out classes and see how your schedule lays out. You will still have to register on ut registration page but myedu is a great tool. You can look up professor ratings on myedu or ratemyprofessor.com Pay attention to what other students say regarding class style, curve, how hard exams are etc. Good luck

Classes fill up quick so be ready to jump online first opportunity to register. If college board has sent your AP credit information, it will show on website and you can request credits with your advisors permission. You will have to take a UT test for the gov credit but all others you just pay the petition fee and they award the credit. The main thing is that you had college board send scores to correct ut office.

We have to take a test to get the gov credit?? Oh crap…I took AP Gov exam sophomore year of HS and don’t remember much.

You can wait until you have time to study. You can wait to take right before you graduate if you like

CH301 (General Chemistry I), Difficulty: 6/10 - Laude, McCord
CH302 (General Chemistry II), Difficulty: 7/10 - Laude
CH320M (Organic Chemistry), Difficulty: 7/10 - Shabbir

PHY303K (Engineering Physics: Mechanics), Difficulty: 6/10 - Turner
PHY303L (Engineering Physics: Electricity & Magnetism), Difficulty: 10/10 - PLEASE AVOID THIS CLASS!!!

M408C (Differential and Integral Calculus), Difficulty: 4/10 - Gonzalez
M408D (Multivariable Calculus with Sequences and Series), Difficulty: 9/10 - Gonzalez
M427J (Differential Equations and Applications), Difficulty: 9/10 - Wollesensky

UGS (Undergraduate Studies) - Any class but Popular Astronomy, it’s VERY difficult. Unless you are interested, don’t take this Popular Astronomy as the UGS.

GE (General Engineering) - Take GE for Chem or Math if he is taking M408D. These classes are automatic A’s for attending and GPA Booster’s. They help you in class by giving you practice problems.

Also - just because you want a professor, there is no guarantee you will get that professor. So many times, there is a conflict on class times and you have to decide which class is the most important based on professor versus class schedule.
