UT Engineering Honors Acceptance

Hello,
I am a rising in-state senior looking to go into biomedical engineering and I’m wondering how likely I am to get into the UT Engineering Honors Program.
I have a 1560 on SAT(800 on math, 760 on reading/writing) and I plan to retake it
4.75 weighted GPA, 3.93 unweighted
Top 7%(about #45/698 it isn’t concrete yet) at a very competitive school
5 on AP(Biology, Computer Science A, US History)
4 on AP(English Language, World History, Computer Science Principles)
3 on AP Spanish Language
760 on Math 2 Subject test and 750 on Biology M (both are much lower than I was expecting I didn’t get much sleep before so I am retaking them)
I am also going to take the ACT in a month
Very involved in extracurriculars:
Varsity swimmer and compete around the country for my club
Co-founded a club in partnership with a global organization and I am going to be planning a 5k run for the club fundraising
Leadership in my church
Lots of volunteering

If anyone has been accepted and could share your info that would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have a friend who was admitted to EHP for Fall 2018. Their stats were pretty similar to yours, except their ECs were engineering heavy (UIL CS competitor, robotics, etc.). Definitely, apply though and nail your honors essays.

Don’t you need to be in the top 6% for auto admit? And that doesn’t guarantee you’ll get into engineering. I would think it might be tricky to get into honors.

From what I understand, the honors program isn’t that different from when I was in it in the dark ages. I really didn’t get much out of it. I actually wish I hadn’t signed up for honors physics, because it was a beast and all the smart kids ruined the curve, ha.

@joey3432 DS just completed freshman year and is in EHP. He had a 35 ACT and graduated near the top of his class, auto admit. Lots of non engineering ECs and leadership. -only did one summer engineering exploration camp which changed his mind from pursuing medicine. So, don’t be deterred if your resume isn’t engineering heavy. He is also a very strong writer. Focus on those essays and apply early.

Also @MaineLonghorn is correct. The program doesn’t really do much. Don’t feel like you’ll miss out if you don’t get in.

There is talk of making more of it but, DS said it may take a couple of years. They do have EHP first-year interest groups (FIG groups) that take bundled required classes together. -not sure if that’s a new thing or not.
