I am seriously so frustrated and upset. I just logged in today and found out that I was rejected. It was a really crushing blow to me, I thought my stats were pretty good: 2320 superscore sat, predicted A Level grades: AAA/B + A for GP, decent ECs (won competitions). Can anyone please please explain to me why I was rejected and what I should do now? Is it because I’m an international student? I’m just so upset and demoralised now I feel as if all hope is gone :((((((((( I don’t know where to go from here…

Your international status most likely produced the damage. Due to the TX state legislature’s passing of a bill that automatically accepts students who are in the top 8% in their respective high school classes to UT Austin, approximately 75% of university offers are allocated to in-state applicants who are in the top 8% of their graduating class according to class rank in their respective high schools. Only 25% is left for non top8%ers and internationals. You have excellent stats, but circumstance probably “crowded” you out.

This is totally unrelated, but I have a cousin doing compulsory military training in Singapore. Have you applied to National University?

OOS (including international) is capped at 10% of acceptances by law. Applicants from all over the world are competing for those spots. It’s not that you aren’t wonderfully qualified, there are just not enough spots.

@1314eternal and Tiger1992

Yeah, I’m applying to local universities. Sorry I sounded really terrible ytd, cos I only just saw the rejection letter and honestly felt that I’m gonna get rejected everywhere else. But I’m much better today :)) thx for the replies!

I got admission from UT fall 2011 in masters of geology! I got another admission from Stanford as well. It is going to be a tough choise! I haven’t made up my mind yet

UT and Stanford admit people who cannot spell “choice”? Oh, how neat. ;]

Well, this is an informal discussion thread. Don’t be so picky. I don’t care about misspelling the word “choice”, at least I did not do that in my statement of purpose for UT and Stanford!!

Wait i thought UT doesn’t Superscore SAT?

UT doesn’t superscore SAT.

3.41 All IB classes, IBDC, SUPER AMAZING Extracirr. and 1400 on SAT
Accepted into the College of Communications Public Relations at UT Austin.

Oh and I had super family connections into the school and was one of the Dean’s 20 students for admittance into PR.
